AL's post on FB features the video for "Happy Hour" by the Housemartins. "let's make this the theme" within the year, she sez. So I sez: if it's a happy hour you want, how 'bout Jermaine Stewart "We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off".

I love that song Happy Hour! I remember buying it in vinyl in high school.
-
pre-emptive WOS for "I Wanna Be a Cowboy", which we're apparently gonna be, er, saddled with. Yo, yo, yo.
-
Nothing screams upbeat '86 like I Can't Wait by Nu Shooz. Hope AL plays it!

I nearly requested that myself. Cheeziest synth-line EVAH (and I mean that in the nicest possible way).
-
I have high hopes for this good-time, "happy-hour" concept -- it would seem to preclude some of the boring '86 Morey-era mainstays like David & David (tho' we apparently are getting them anyway, since 4 or 5 people requested "Boomtown"). But here's hoping.
instant BOS the Housemartins, of course!
-
having stream troubles.. anyone else? I had to trot out an actual radio.... "What a good place to be..."
-
I don't like this Happy song. WOS.

VHM to another great video, "Harlem Shuffle," which I adored when it came out. Took me several weeks to learn it was a cover.

good thing it is -- if Mick had written a song about Harlem with the phrase "monkey shine" in it in 1986... he'd've been, er, lynched.
-
VHM Run-DMAerosmith

Aerosmith owes a big one to Run DMC for reviving their career.
-
VHM FRA to the Rolling Stones!
-
Great set so far...love it! BOS almost everything so far.. 8)

Is that phrase in there? I thought it was "do the monkey time," as in the Major Lance song.
-
WOS-in-perpetuity Ted, who should be dead. One of the stupidest hits of the decade (which is saying something)
-
pre-emptive WOS for "I Wanna Be a Cowboy", which we're apparently gonna be, er, saddled with. Yo, yo, yo.
I concur.

I think it's "time" in the original; I've always thought Mick m'greened it.

Gaz, do you remember long ago giving me a b-day gift of an 80's comp CD called Squeeze The Cheese? This was naturally featured, and I guess it qualifies as a Guilty Pleasure. I think it would be a stretch to call it a Turkey.

I concur.
Not too keen on this either. WOS2

Actually, I think Falco should put a saddle on Ted and they should both get out of Dodge.

I lurve me some Max Headroom, and I pretty much liked Art of Noise, too, but these aren't really two great tastes that taste great together.

Thanks for the ID. I think it evokes Q-Feel's "Dancing in Heaven (Orbital Be-Bop)."
-
This Bronski Beat was someone's inspired FB request. Well done. Perfect Beat, indeed.
ETA: aha, I see it's radical's request. noice!

thank you for that, R-347! I still have this 45, was very sad that it wasn't a US hit. (tho' it went to #3 in the UK) Even if I don't get Jermaine Stewart, this makes the set for me.

This is probably the best 1986 set I've heard. Yeah, I hear the hate for Boys Don't Cry, but the song is so ridiculous I can't get too worked up about it.

quite amazing: per the shraytabase, the Housemartins, TMBG, Art of Noise and Bronski Beat are all bustouts, and the Falco a serious rarity with only ONE play in the Morey era. "...Cowboy", aside from being awful, is the major Katrina here (8 Dave plays).

This is probably the best 1986 set I've heard.
This set reminds me of high school so much! Great variety on the radio back then. Big Rick used to play most of these songs - esp Housemartins, Smiths, Iggy, etc -on KITS (pre-Live105) back in the day. He's such a great DJ and am happy he's still on the air.
