Title: 13 July 2010: it's... 1971
Post by: RGMike on July 12, 2010, 08:28:20 PM
AL's clue was The Flip Wilson Show, which ran from '70 to '74. BTW, we haven't been to '72 since April (!).

nice one, tough.   I had to look it up.  at first I was looking at Spinners' Games People Play, before I realized you asked about Joe South's version -- I would never had gotten this without googling for it.

You got it.  Specifically, songs that say "sock it to YOU."

a phrase that caused much hand-wringing in the Osmond family when they recorded "OBA". Mom Osmond was horrified -- "doesn't that mean something dirty??"
