Title: 1975: "Your slightly shady past" for Thursday
Post by: mshray on June 16, 2005, 09:56:49 AM
not sure if that's good or bad, but I'll miss it for a stupid 10:00 offsite meeting.

But please send me all your positive energy, I had an interview yesterday & I am really hoping they offer.  Said they'd ring me back today, so please do what you can to influence them in my direction.

Thanks in advance.

I'll miss most of it too... but a Dewey Bunnell reference in the pre-announce means... 1975!

Joni, "In France They Kiss on Main St", instant BOS contender.

Please forgive the mis-placed thread on the Stream of consiousness board. I tried to delete it when I realized I'd punted another one, but once it's been replied to the app won't let you do that--did not know that before.

I'm torn between that and the Joni. No really deep nuggets so far.

Back from meeting in time for Manhattan Transfer. Rare enough for a VHM. Amazing that stuff like this got FM play back then -- those were indeed the glory days of album radio.

OK, it ain't a bustout, but this qualifies in the nugget department. BOS1.

And no sooner posted than we hear my BOS2: I'm Not In Love. Far from a bustout as well, but a personal fave. And spectacularly lush production--this song sounds fab on headphones. Godley & Creme at their finest.

10cc trivia: what 60s british invasion hit was written by Graham Gouldman, later of 10cc? (He may actually have had several, but this is a song I consider one of the best pop songs ever.)

Agreed.  But proxy WOS for Gaz, I suppose -- I wish I could convince him of the wonders of this album (and wish "Life is a Minestrone" would show up just ONCE).

I must not have payed attention to the back announce in the 70's I recognized all of these songs, but if it weren't for you guys, I'd never know Manhatten Transfer, Godley & Creme did those songs.
If it wasn't the Beatles, I didn't pay attention.

Oh, you know. It's that one where the chorus is: "... something-something-something rock, rock, rock..."

Of course, it's probably NOT Zep with my luck.

"Uh... who is "Ides of March, Alex?" BZZZZ! WRONG!

BOS BlackByrds "Walking in Rhythm", still glorious and quite the flashback for me.  Love the flute solo. If you got it, flaut it!

very mellow set
I recall being being confused when they would do a back announce - was it the artist or the Dj's name?
Even funnier, when KFOG had those billboards of Hendrix, Tom Petty, Bonnie Raitte (sp?), forget who else.. my wife thought they were the KFOG DJs

Ah, Boogie With Stu.  BOS.

Dave hasn't played any when they were good Journey in quite some time ("Topaz" or "Of a Lifetime" are '75 songs).

Post-show ad for that movie with Hilary Duff and Heather Locklear. Does it make anyone else feel old knowing that Heather Locklear is now playing "mom" roles?

Bonus track:  based on the clue, it must be something of off Who By Numbers.

Hopefully "Slip Kid" or "Imagine A Man" instead of the predictable "Squeeze Box".

followed by OMD "If You Leave" which is not a normal KFOG rotational song, is it?  I don't listen much outside the Morning Show anymore, so I wonder if they're shaking up their rotation.

yeah, actually, I hear that often enough outside of Mornings.  They may well be playing more '70s/'80s "hits", tho' in reaction to MAX.

That's the answer I was after, but I have yet to scope out the Gouldman-ography.
