Lawd! JJ kicks my morning off with Marvin & Tammi's "Onion Song". (but it's actually Marvin and Valerie Simpson)
and now Miss LaBelle is selling her heart to the junkman!
-
Holy crap -- wish Gaz were here to catch Donna Fargo's "Superman" on 'LNG -- it's nearly as bad as her other hits, if less sappy.
"sometimes right is just as wrong as wrong is" -- er, wha??

listening to a really nice Stevie Wonder tribute on one of the Jazz-FM podcasts; seems Stevie performed in London's Hyde Park this weekend. Jazz covers of Wonder tunes, Stevie himself, and so forth. A set of Stevie-covering-others is highlighted by Stevie's version of "Light My Fire", which is NTM and a bit more raucous than Jose F's.
And here he is doing "Look down, look down, that lonesome road", which he makes sound like "Place in the Sun" meets "Blowin' in the Wind".
-
and this Stevie thing gets even better: a bunch of songs he wrote for others:
Contours Just A Little Misunderstanding
Isley Brothers My Love Is Your Love Forever (NTM and quite fab)
Supremes Bad Weather (criminally neglected at the time it was released)
Spinners Its A Shame
followed by Stevie's orig take on "Until You Come Back To Me"
and fancy Miss Nancy Wilson doing "Uptight"!
truly Wonder-ful.

found myself listening to some station called 181.FM via shoutcast.com and Jay Ferguson's Shakedown Cruise song came on. haven't heard it in a while -- thank god, b/c it's rather crappy, insipid, a throw-away pop nothing. But it got me wondering: "Could the crappiness of this song be one reason why some folks really hate hearing Thunder Island?" (I rather like Thunder Island, for the record -- did you know Joe Walsh plays on it?)

Haven't heard that in eons.

Bohannon Bohannon Bohannon Bohannon! Radio de Sebb plays a lot of him -- now I know what Tom Tom Club were on about. His "save Their Souls" is tasty, and it's followed by the equally fab "Don't Look Any Further" -- ex-Temptation Dennis Edwards accompanied by a pre-MJ Siedah Garrett
-
ooo! Miss Candi Staten Island's always-welcome cover of "Nights on B'way".
-
Barry Scott plays the rare radio edit of "Play That Funky Music" which eliminates the phrase "white boy" (!), which I've only ever heard on KDIA back when they were a black oldies powerhouse.
But the OMGWTF of the Day goes to the late Vicki Sue Robinson's disco remake of "To Sir With Love" (!!)
And we also got the BeeGees version of "If I Can't Have You". (it's an all-disco show today, in case you hadn't guessed)
