Yup, it's a summer songs set. Here's one we won't hear, I'm sure: "Here Comes Summer", a 1977 rarity by a group who called themselves Wildfire. It's a somewhat Eagles-ish remake of the Jerry Keller hit from 1959. I still own this 45; didn't find out until recently that one of the members of Wildfire was DJ Scott Shannon of WPLJ, Z-100 and "True Oldies Channel" fame.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK! Those damn Krauts (or Dutchies, or whatever) are lost in Sausalito again. But I may blow a gasket. WOS.

I'll pass on the Dutchies, too. It's a good song to hear once in a blue moon, though.

awww... Gidget into "Surfer Girl". Look at she, she's Sandra Dee!
-
inevitable Sly gets a VHM. Hi, hi, hi, hi there!

Thats a mondegreen for me! I always sing, "high, high, high, high days."
-
OMFG! thank you AL -- BOS the mighty 'berries, "Drivin' Around"!
-
Ack...2 theme sets in a row. I've noticed quite a few theme sets lately (the themes which seem to get more and more unnecessary imo) tho - and more 90s too - is she back to doing one each 60s/70s/80s/90s/theme per week?
-
Mungo Jerry - I knew we'd hear this one! No Complaints
-
Have a drink have a drive - not good advice

I dunno, June is just a big theme month -- we didn't get "Summer" last year because it was a Sunday. Friday will be the Pride Set, BTW.
VHM to the true stereo of this Mungo Jerry classic.

I believe they're Dutch, and they seem like dubious drivers, exercising poor decisions: they're driving the Grapevine without a spare! idjits! No wonder more bikes are used than cars in Amsterdam.

Now here's a song I can get behind, BOS to Motels. I hope she plays The Style Council - Long Hot Summer (preferrably the 12") too.
-
WOS2 Martha Motel. Does AL know what the Tennessee Williams play Suddenly Last Summer was about??

well, we know how I feel about the Motels, but Style Council was one of my FB-requests, along with the Raspberries tune we just heard, Blotto's "I Wanna Be a Lifeguard" and Sinatra's "Summer Wind"
-
I wanna hear Edie Cochran's Summertime Blues
-
Ok, I take back the unnecessary-ness of this set. Uber BOS2 to Simple Minds, Someone Somewhere in Summertime! :)
-
I wanna hear Edie Cochran's Summertime Blues
did he have a sex-change? maybe we'll hear him on Friday, then. ;)

Wow, I just read the "Plot" section on Wikipedia. That's some topic (set of topics!) for a play.

I'll second the VHM, just because this is the first time I've heard song by them that isn't Low Rider! :o

Some times of the year are just more prone to theme sets--like April with April Fools, Tax Day, and Earth Day hard on one another's heels. Haven't been really keeping track of whether we've been getting more of the quota method of programming or not however, since I've been unable to listen to most of them (sigh). But you may have something.
I've noticed a lot of sets that go to 11 lately too--like at least a couple every week. Maybe she misses doing the Bonus track more than she's letting on, so just tacking it onto the end of the set? Anyway, it's her gig, she can do what she wants--far be it for me to bitch about getting an extra song.
All that said, looking at today's box score it seems like she took a lot of fogheads' by-the-book suggestions for this set, but where she deviated and made a pick of her own, she really went for it (Raspberries, Simple Minds, DJJJ & FP). I'd thought for sure she was going to use my Jonathan Richman suggestion (That Summer Feeling), but it didn't happen. I'll have to console myself thinking maybe it was one that was left on deck.

actually, the 'beeries tune was one of mine... I also requested the Blotto song she posted on FB -- She brought it in from home, she said, but tho' it was a big "turntable hit" in the Northeast, nobody in SF had heard of it.

I love Janis, but I wish she'd have taken my Billy Stewart suggestion!
