Ya know, it didn't occur to me until this time how Prince-like that song is, before your comment.  So, uh, ditto.

Seconded.  I dig Kate Bush, and nice to hear something other than "Running Up That Hill", even though it's a great song too.

can you name a song that contains both the words "hermeneutic" and "paradigm"?

little hint: we could hear the song in today's set.

I wonder if Marillion fans lamented that they'd gone the way of Genesis when this tune came out.

Jinxy Philification!

you mean they weren't always Genesis clones? or that they were once "good Genesis" clones and here became "bad Genesis" clones?

Oh, that reminds me.  What song contains both the words "stalwart" and "prognosticators"? (It was a single around 04-05 that we don't hear anymore, but it's by a very well-established AAA artist.)

Sounds kinda like a Wallflowers line...

oops, it was the Jean Knight version. I have both 45s at home (as well as the John Fogerty version) and always found it amusing that 2 '70s soul singers (both pop OHWs, give or take) would try to make comebacks with this song. They essentially cancelled each other out -- Ms Knight got to #50 and the LaSalle version didn't make the pop chart at all.

Good guess (actually it does seem very likely that the Wallflowers would write a song like that) but that isn't it.  Hint #2. This artist has been around for a lot longer than them and some of his songs from the 80s still get massive recurrent spins on AC stations.

ok times up, the song is an album cut from a group that, to most people, is fairly obscure, though I know some folks here know them.

the song is Love to Fall from Scritti Politti's 1985 album  Cupid & Psyche 85

I found a new hermeneutic
I found a new paradigm..
I found a plan just to make you mine (mine, mine)

yeah, it was a stretch.  ;)  I love that album....

whatever became of Mr Gartside, anyway? I loved "Wood Beez" as much as "Perfect Way", and the follow-up LP Provision wasn't bad either. It was suggested at the time that he'd've been perfect to produce Michael Jackson. Too bad that didn't happen.

in 2006 he played Slim's as "Scritti Politti" -- and I wish I had gone...  he's put out some other SP releases -- I think I have them all, but I hardly play them -- in fact, it seems listen to radio more than my own CDs these days.
