Title: 28 May 2010: a "Memorial" set of dead rockers
Post by: RGMike on May 27, 2010, 07:37:32 PM
Seriously, that's what we're getting. Good luck limiting it to ten, AL...

Yeah, it is a bit too broad. Perhaps she could have limited it to rockers who died before they turned 40, so that we don't get the likes of George Harrison (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Since Memorial Day is supposed to honor men and women who died while in the military service, she should limit it to rockers who died while actually making rock!

I found some:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category%3AMusicians_who_died_on_stage

these might fit:

    * Dimebag Darrell
    * Skinny Dennis
    * Judge Dread
    * Nelson Eddy
    * Leslie Harvey
    * Miriam Makeba
    * Country Dick Montana
    * Mark Sandman
    * Tiny Tim
    *  Lord Uli of The Lords
    * Leonard Warren
    * Johnny "Guitar" Watson

Both Jackie Wilson and Curtis Mayfield died after stage calamities (Wilson collapsed and went into a coma, died later, Curtis hit by falling lighting structure) and I'd rather hear either of them than, er, Nelson Eddy. But some Country Dick is always welcome.

Also, he's not on that list 'cause he was more comedian than musicain, but Dick Shawn (best-known as LSD in the original The Producers movie) died with his boots on too.

sorry, the rocker/musician has to have died in combat (on stage). So Jackie Wilson doesn't count.  :(

BOS Buddy Holly

ok, perhaps if the musician was in rock-related transit, it counts more than others who just choked on someone else's vomit.

So I predict Stevie Ray.

Actually, choking on vomit is very rock-related, come to think of it

this is only the 2nd time I've heard the unexpurgated "she gets... HIGH" -- and the first was just a few weeks ago. Now I'm officially "experienced", heh heh.

Of course it is.  And you can't really dust for vomit.

Pretty darn good set, so far.

I heard about the edit forced on the Doors by the record company, but this is the first time I've ever heard it, too...

Hope you all liked this set, gang, 'cause they're repeating it on Monday. I assume that's what AL meant by "encore" and not that she was planning to do a sequel. Maybe I'll get to hear it for one of the replays or something. My days of hearing the sets in real time seem to be over for the time being. At least 'til fall.
