you guys are much better at charts than I, so here's the question: I was listening to Rock FM here when "Fly Like an Eagle" was a new record (KSAN) and I don't ever remember hearing "Wild Mountain Honey" until about 15 years ago, on KKCY or KFOG. Since then, it seems like a KFOG staple. Did it ever chart as a single? Do you remember it getting airplay when it was new?

"Wild Mountain Honey" wasn't a Top 40 hit; my guess/assumption is that it was a popular album track on the order of "Isn't She Lovely" et al. I don't remember hearing it growing up, but then again, my radio exposure was fairly limited until 1981.

I recall it getting some airplay on KZAP out of Sacramento in the summer of 76, but there were about half a dozen others that got played as well--Serenade, Merc Blues, Take the Money & Run, Rock 'n Me, and The Window, as well as the title track. How many of those were singles I'm not certain--Take the Money and possibly Rock 'n Me? But in any case, that record had some serious legs--I assumed FM was all over it.

this begs another question: "What do you guys use for chart references?"
Is there a good online resource? Do you guys have printed books? Where do you get all this info?
If it's linkable, I'd like to incorporate it on our links page.

it's the Top 40 database and it's a godsend. It's based on Billboard, which is the bible for all of us, chart-wise. Joel Whitburn's books (we've mentioned him often too) are pricey but invaluable. I'm not sure if he has a website, you'll have to Google him.

officially, the singles from the Miller LP were (in order):
Take the Money & Run (#11)
Rock'N'Me (#1)
Fly Like an Eagle (#2)
But in the Northeast, virtually every track got lots of airplay; "WMH" was especially popular. But then lots of albums were "4 or 5 tracks deep" on most FM rock stations. Ah, AOR before it became a complete slave to consultants and record companies... there's a reason why albums went multiplatinum back then -- saturation airplay!

If nothing else, get Whitburn's The Billboard Book of TOP 40 HITS (I have the 7th edition which goes from '55-'00, maybe there's now a later one). It's over 800 pages, large trade format, weighs exactly 3 lbs (postal scale on my desk), run ya about $25.
One other source for checking things is Allmusic.com, but they don't have the Billboard lists as such. However every artist has a Charts & Awards tab that will show you all the chart action for their singles, most importantly the Hot 100, but also Dance Tracks, Alternative, etc.
