Title: 30 April 2010: it's 1987
Post by: RGMike on April 30, 2010, 08:10:03 AM
Good suggestions on AL's 10@10 page; suddenly the dreaded years on the wheel are less dreaded.

Take back your Joe Piscopo.  WOS1 to Petty.  I'm expecting something from Rattle & Hum.

WOS2 "Thing Called Love."  I hate this song no matter who sings it.

HM to "Animal."  The Hysteria album took a while to take off and had an interesting trajectory for its singles: first single "Woman" made the Hot 100 but missed the Top 40; then "Animal" went Top 40 but missed the Top 10; then the title track hit #10, then the fourth single, "Love Bites," finally went to #1, and the fifth single, "Pour Some Sugar on Me," was the best-known of them all.

hot tramp! daddy's li'l cutie!  If you'd told me the year before that a 2nd, different "Rag Doll" would hit the charts 20-something years after the 4 Seasons... and that it'd be a hard rocker... I'd've never believed it.

I always marvel at how much Pope JP-II sounded like Bela Lugosi.

BOS2 New Order -- AL loves her some N.O.

when I was a very small boy
Michael Jackson talked to me...

BOS "True Faith," the song that won me over to New Order.  I remember watching the video one Sunday morning just before leaving for bowling (I was in a duckpin league at the time).

Flying in the face of fashion, sounding a bit like Squeeze's contemporaneous "Hourglass" in a way.  Set's gotten tedious.

Me too! (Minus the bowling part.) I first heard it one night from the AAA station in Burlington, VT when I was pulling an all-niter @ college.  I had heard Bizarre Love Triangle a few times beore & liked it, but True Faith is what really won me over to them.

another Triple-A snoozer: Chris Isaak. Granted, in '87 his sound was still fresh, but now?

Sorry to say this is one of AL's worst efforts in a while.

BOS2 to Roger Waters.

But yeah...this was like a a carbon copy of Dave 87 set.  She's done better for this year.

wha wha WHA??!  Chris Isaak gets a pass any time.  He's a man crush for me  -- and not for the reason you're thinking RGMIke! -- and generally love his musaak, so BOS to him.  ;)
