Awaiting confirmation from AL, but I've gotta assume we're getting this 10@10 tradition.
the usual suspects, no doubt, but I'm hoping for:
ABBA - "Money Money Money" (how ABBA-centric Dave managed to avoid playing this one remains a mystery)
Spinal Tap - "Gimme Some Money"
Liza Minnelli/Joel Grey - "Money" (from Cabaret)
Monty Python - "Money Song"
and please: instead of "It's Money That Matters" by Randy Newman, substitute his "It's Money That i Love" for a change.
ETA: bummer, AL's FB post indicates the year Mandela was freed and the Niners won the Super Bowl. I'm quite surprised -- the Money/Tax set was as much a tradition as Pride or the Halloween Spook-Tacular.

Kudos to our lufaphs for requesting Electronic's "Getting Away with It", which I know Gaz and I would both love to hear. Hope AL takes the suggestion.
Update: after Gaz also commented on the Tax day snub (and requested Calloway's "I Wanna Be Rich" for 1990), AL replied:
Hey guys, I'm sorry to disappoint on Tax Day-I just didn't file this year :) Naw, I guess I just thought we could give all those same old $$$ songs a... tax break this year...but let me know if you really miss it and we can do stimulus package refund set soon...umkay? ... and I love your Electronic request, Tim... Calloway would make sense for the 15th, too, JM...and will do another "power pop" set for sure ...Thanks all..you really have the best taste!

Hello Jane,

-
BOS to TMBG and the Turks.
The only people who listened to Jane's at my college were spoiled rich kids.
-
I wish we'd actually heard some Milli Vanilli after that clip.
Smithereens sounding like Smithereens: guilty displeasure.
-
Hello Jane,
(http://www.blogcdn.com/www.tvsquad.com/media/2005/05/davenavarro.jpg)
WOS1. Never "got" them. Never will.
WOS2 Smithereens, past their sell-by date.
(and yes, I'm cranky about no Tax set.)
-
BOS to TMBG and the Turks.
I never tire of telling the story about the music critic for NY Magazine in '90 who reviewed this LP and said "Istanbul" is "easily the silliest song TMBG has ever written" -- she had no idea it was a tune from the 1920s.

we're firmly in (boring) Moreytrina territory so far, sad to say.

I wish we'd actually heard some Milli Vanilli after that clip.
Smithereens sounding like Smithereens: guilty displeasure.
I was hoping for Milli Vanilli, too. dang.
And I agree on Smithereens, I like a couple songs, but the bulk of their stuff is ho-hum for me. It's his voice.
-
BOS2 Dee-lite, mah succotash wish.

I heard this song just last night in the Goodwill Store at Fillmore & Geary! BOS
in addition to everyday bargains, they feature a good store soundtrack.

It's a mixture of corn and lima beans and, errr, peas? Something like that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Succotash
Succotash (from Narragansett msíckquatash, "boiled corn kernels"[1]) is a food dish consisting primarily of corn and lima beans or other shell beans.[1] Other ingredients may be added including tomatoes[2] and green or sweet red peppers.[3] Because of the relatively inexpensive and more readily available ingredients, the dish was popular during the Great Depression in the United States. It was sometimes cooked in a casserole form, often with a light pie crust on top as in a traditional pot pie. In some parts of the American South, any mixture of vegetables prepared with lima beans and topped with lard or butter is called succotash. Succotash is a traditional dish of many Thanksgiving celebrations in Pennsylvania and other states. In Indiana, Succotash is made with green beans and corn instead of lima beans.
The word succotash is used as part of a catch phrase of the Warner Bros. cartoon cat Sylvester: "Sufferin' succotash!" The depression-era exclamation is said to be a minced oath/euphemism of "Suffering Savior". Daffy Duck also said "Sufferin' succotash!" from time to time and it is also referenced in Deee-Lite's song "Groove is in the Heart" -- "My supperdish, my succotash wish...", also in Alien Ant Farm's song 'Wish' - "Make a wish, make a succotash wish..."

Kind of liking most of this set, as 1990 was a year I have quite specific memories of.
Sonic Youth is the first real BOS though.
"Are you gonna liberate us girls from male white corporate oppression?"
-
Is this the Sonic Youth referenced on Facebook? Typically noisy.

their songs sounded good on the radio at the time; stodgy AOR stations could play them and seem like they were playing new bands. It wasn't until I saw them live that I realized how similar all the tunes were.

another band I never really "got".

actually, it's waaaaay too poppy Sonic Youth. Still, in the context of what we typically hear on these sets and what gets played normally on radio in general, big BOS.
....but you could head over to a decent eclectic college station and hear more stuff along Sonic Youth lines, which is a good thing.

ZsaZsa goes AC/DC! LOL!
-
So mean to Zsa Zsa!
-
I missed the beginning. What's the "Jane" song mentioned on page 1 that Mike never got?
