according to AL's clue on the promo and her FB page: "the year Stephen Hawkings' A Brief History of Time was published." I've requested either Joan Jett or Lita Ford, to continue the Runaways theme from yesterday.
-
Holy Toledo! A Proclaimers song other than "500 Miles". No doubt I've never heard this before, though hearing it now, I'm not surprised.
-
Holy crap -- the Proclaimers are on their wee, er, way. An ATBB that barely got any airplay in '88 afaik.
-
Purple toupee and gold lamé is all i need to BOS the Giants!
-
And whoa, a "They Might Be Giants" song other than "Birdhouse in Your Soul". "Purple Toupee"? Great!
-
BOSFRA to TMBG, "Purple Toupee," which I haven't heard since college.
-
BOS TMBG -- this is NTM, never got a lick of NYC airplay.
-
aaack! let's Escape from this Club. "Cher is on the airwaves" -- one of my fave m-greens.
-
HM for Escape Club pumping it up while working for a living with "Wild Wild West".
ETA: Didn't really need the loooooong version.

I'm glad you did the work for us, b/c it's hard to find a mondegreen in a song you can't stand hearing! ;)

you should have called their Dial-A-Song hotline!

Ditto on the ETA. Sheesh.

I found it quite clever at the time but I don't think it's aged well -- and this 12" version isn't helping.
-
Real BOS for some real rock from Vernon and the boys.
-
I'll BOS Vernon Reid's Living Colour -- saw them at CBGB's in '88
-
BOS2 Living Color, "CoP", a Morey fave. Next time "Glamour Boys", please.

I'm trying to remember if I ever called it. I know I was aware of it. (I learned about TMBG when MTV put "Don't Let's Start" into occasional rotation.)
-
BOS3 B.A.D. --just play dat music!

Never heard this one. Good stuff.
They could use some real trumpets in there.

a guy where I worked called it once and said "listen to this" and handed the phone to me. I can't recall the song I heard, but I was unimpressed at the time. I did become a real TMBG fan a couple years later and wished I had seen them back when I still lived in NYC.
They'll Need a Crane is an amusing video. It shows the band, consisting of the two Johns and bunch of senior citizens men. They're playing near the main fountain in Central Park: http://vimeo.com/7725846

Never heard this one. Good stuff.

This one I *do* remember, but it was a fairly minor alt-radio hit as I recall. I'm wondering how many of the songs we've heard so far were being played by KFOG in '88.
proxy of shray, the Church, a real rept-trina.
-
Church's Reptile sounds good. Echo and the Bunnymen-esque
-
I'm a sucker for Edie Brickell & New Bohemians' "Circle." BOS2.
-
I quit. I give up. WOS Mrs. Simon. What she am is what she are and what she is now is an Upper-East-side society matron.
-
BOS4 Heathers. "I love my dead gay son!"
BOS5 Graham Parker, gettin' started with the Mona Lisa's sistah.
-
BOS for Graham Parker. I've always liked this one.
And another BOS for "Heathers". That's an intense movie. Especially Christian Slater's best Jack Nicholson.

Tighten up Vol 88 was a great album.. my fave from that is The Battle of All Saints Road
Sometimes there's a drought we cant get no sensi at all
-
Jane says... this song has one of the whiniest vocals evah.
-
Biggest BOS I think for Jane saying what she wants to say about her addiction. (though she never mentions the word "addiction"...)
-
Ha! AL did "9@10" today!
-
BOS for Graham Parker. I've always liked this one.
me, too. I like it whenever I hear it, but I never cared enough about it to seek it out.
-
Ha! AL did "9@10" today!
But she got to 10 at the end, didn't she? I don't get it. Did she change the number of a song in the middle there?
