Let's hear it for Grosse Point Eddie!

And Stubborn Kind of Fella--great start!

(Even if it was in the last Motowns-specific set we heard last fall...)

Damn! I keep googling "vandella" and keep getting, like, health-related websites. These health-related sites refer to a Vandella Costumes, but I haven't found that exact page yet.

Dang.

Digging the set, but the phone keeps ringing.  Missed the Vernor's spot, dammit!

Damn, I *just* heard Martha's explanation of the name a few weeks ago, and I forget.  I think it was a feminization of the street where she lived, Van SomethingOrOther.  A nonsense word, acknowledged.

I believe it was Van de Lay Ave, named after Art Van de Lay, a famous architect.

Sounding even better Saturday at noon.

You could make a solid album just of the Four Tops singles that missed the Top 40, I realized this week.  (Not "You Keep Running Away," which made #19.)
#49 - Yesterday's Dreams
#90 - A Simple Game
#43 - Without the One You Love (Life Is Not Worth While)
#45 - Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever
#51 - I'm in a Different World
#53 - What Is a Man

And that's just the ones I'm goo-goo-ga-ga for.

Agreed -- and those are just the Motown ones.  Surely one of my top 5 #41 singles is "One Chain Don't Make No Prison" (1974) from their ABC/Dunhill period, later covered by Santana. I was crushed that it wasn't a huge hit. Track it down if you've never heard it.

And of course there's "Loco in Acapulco" which never charted at all in the US
