Early today.
And we're off to 1974! What a coincidence, given the revelation of Deep Throat's true ID yesterday!

"Heroes are Hard to Find". Dave continues the political slant begun yesterday. Bless his li'l ole heart.
BOS Womack!

It'll be 1974 tomorrow on the Drive, as well. Not a coincidence of you ask me.

but the question is, will either Dave or Bob do '67 on Friday, which is
"the third of June, another sleepy dusty delta day..."
I'd LOVE to hear Ms Gentry -- twice!
-
proxy WOS for Gaz: Wet Katrina.
-
So which way is Dave gonna go with Stevie, "You Ain't Done Nuthin" or "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing"?
(or "Boogie On Reggae Woman"?)
-
proxy WOS for Gaz: Wet Katrina.
But this is a great segue, after Tricky Dicky was trying to sound all noble & shit.

I know I was certainly smilin' that night!

OMG!!! JB!!! "Payback"!! BOS!!
I'm mad!

Or maybe skipping them altogether in favor of The Big Payback. BOS and the first bust-out of the set.

get ready you MUTHA!
all we need now is Lamont Dozier, "Fish Ain't Bitin'" -- "tricky dick, stop yo' shit!"

proxy WOS2 for Gaz: Grand Funk.

Ditto. GF's last gasp.
Significant that a band from Michigan is followed by the congressman from Michigan who ended up as president.
And VHM to Robin Trower, Bridge of Sighs.
-
HM, Mr. Trower.
-
JB is BOS, but Robin Trower is a very close second.
-
BOS2: Gladys, "On & On", a fab Curtis Mayfield composition from the Claudine soundtrack.
-
BOS2 to the Staple Singers.
Dave must have a new Staples compilation--this is the second or third non-standard (i.e. not I'll Take You There or Respect Yourself) SS track we've heard in the last few weeks.

see above. altho' it is very Staples-ish, and Mr Mayfield wrote their hit the following year ("Let's Do it Again") too...
-
the Gaz-man would be testifyin' if he were here to hear Ms King!

That was Gladys? Mea culpa--Sounded like Mavis Staples to me, but as always, I'm never the authority on these things.
-
Bet this gets the popular BOS vote.
Surprised we didn't hear Todd Rundgren in this set. Just One Victory woulda been a natural.
-
VHM Reunion -- oh hell, it's a ten-way tie! Best set in ages and a fine way to start the month!
-

the classic deejay line was: "and now Carole King sings to her bra..."
Lift me, won't you lift me...
-
HM, Mr. Trower.
Hey Rod, when we heard "Lawyers In Love" earlier this morning it struck me that each verse would make a good sig for you:
Am I the only one who hears the screams
And the strangled cries of...Flem59
or
Waiting for World War III while Jesus slaves
To the mating calls of...Flem59
or
And I hear the U.S.S.R. will be open soon
As vacation land for...Flem59

LOL. I like the second one. But, really, I don't think I can associate myself with Jackson Browne -- I'm with POC on this one.

HM, Mr. Trower.
I only heard the backsell, and was sure Rod would've BOS'ed Robin Trower; just goes to show...

Well, it's the rarity of the JB tune that pushed it over the top. "Bridge of Sighs" is a favorite, and something a little less obvious off the album (say, "A Little Bit of Sympathy" or "Too Rolling Stoned") would have defeated JB.

Hey, gang- I'll be out on Thur, 6/2 getting ready for Electric Candyland's big 3-day only appearance at The Next Stage as part of the SF Improv Fest. I've sent y'all an email about it!
Urth: I sent it to your JMBM.com email addy because I couldn't find your work email. I hope that's still a viable email address for ya!
See ya Friday.

Keep on Smilin. Tuned in late. Sounds good. Put in the request for speakers today. :)
-
Let it Grow. Sounds lovely! I'd give this BOS.
-
Not sure I've ever heard the Payback. I'm gruuvin.
-
Could have done without Grand Funk. Trower is good but not my BOS. Waiting for On and On and Jazzman.

I missed a great set. BOS runners up Carole and Reunion. Haven't heard Life is A Rock in ages. BOS runner up for novelty. Rap of sorts.
