This judge agrees.  1970 is a great year!  And while "Bell Bottom Blues" doesn't cook, it's still a fine start.

the bio for Hendrix mentions his loud voice, his Elvis-like gyrations, barely mentions his guitar, just saying he "got a gig as a backup guitarist."

Misstates his age as 28.  He was 27, no?  Just like Jim Morrison, Janis, Kurt Cobain..

ah, the mass media!

I asked Bobby Dylan, I asked the Beatles...but they can't explain these excruciating times getting page loads, so I think I'll worry about some other stuff.  Listening & enjoying!  BOS to everything so far.

p.s. I start the new job on Monday, so no idea what my 10:00 hour is going to look like yet.

Ditto that.  I haven't heard that live version of "Them Changes".  It seems somehow less inspired than the studio version.  Many years ago I saw Santana at Snoreline with Buddy on drums.  They did "Them Changes", and it was very good.  Much better than this version.

BOS Kinks, of course. and proxy of Urth.

Question: Do you guys think Apeman has any racist sentiments in any way?  Would it be written today?  It never occurred to me until I just recently read some internet rant about it.

You saw me drop off pretty completely with my new (now old) job. I feel very positive about new opportunity about to happen. More on that later on the private thread. ;)

WHAT?? you can find an incoherent internet rant about *anything*, dude.  It's a song about wanting to go back to the jungle because modern life sucks.

yeah, I know what it's about, that's what I was thinking, too.  Just wondering what you all thought.

BTW, I would have like hearing Powerman instead of Apeman. At least we didn't get Lola's dark brown voice this time.

Congrats on accepting the job offer!!!

BOS to "It's a Shame," doubt I'll post much more during this set what with these slow load times.

What a great week this has been, a stellar MLK set, and then '67, '70, '76 & '81.  The only low point was the first half of the '81 set.

ETA: page loads quite a bit better, but still sub-optimal.

with the slow page loads, I tried accessing my work web mail while waiting and guess what... no access. I tried at least 5 times. Maybe I have been let go and just not told yet. hmmmmm........On Tuesday I had an email requesting my work phone get shipped back to a processing center but no email saying a new one was shipped. Phones do get swapped regularly but I still wonder.

Another fab set I had to miss 'cause of a meeting. Oh well, got some things worked out on our building project that really needed to be. Really hoping to be able to catch the replay tonight--or is KFOG doing a simulcast of the Haiti telethon like they did for the 9/11 telethon in 2001, which resulted in a really great '71 set being lost to the ages, iirc?

Btw, congrats to Mshray on the new gig--nice that you're able to dive right in Monday morning! And best of luck to Alicat on her opportunity--you're due!

Looks like the new gig is pretty uptight about internet use & the cubes are close enough together I doubt I can listen effectively.  And in any case there is a standing company meeting at 10:00 every Monday, so for sure you won't see me then.

But having a job sure beats not having one!
