A nice surprise, as I was fully expecting a "classic" today, but AL gave us a set about "new beginnings". The Tracy Chapman song of that name, plus Chicago's "Beginnings", The Kinks "Better Things" etc. No "Ding Dong" by George, tho'. Still, AL continues to amaze. Catch it tonite if ya missed it.

Wow, that's a first--an original set on a major holiday.

actually AL gave us an original on Thanksgiving too. She's really going out of her way to be creative on days when she could easily phone it in -- like the two 4th of July-themed sets she did on the 2nd & 3rd of July. And she's done fine jobs with sets that were Dave trademarks like Pride and Halloween. She clearly LOVES being the mistress of 10@10. Long may she wave!

Digging the replay so far. Not sure if I'd ever heard the Tracy C. song before. Glad to hear Lennon's Starting Over, complete with Yoko's bell intro. The Feist song that followed it not affecting me one way or the other.

Not digging the rocked-up version of Auld Lang Syne that's ending the set. Sorry, it's kinda spoiling the vibe for me. Otherwise, it's nine-tenths of a great set.
ETA: Backsell reveals it was the Smithereens doing ALS. I'd have been happier had AL dropped the George H. song Mike mentioned into the middle of the set someplace, and ended with Better Things. But c'est la vie.

that "Feist song" wasn't Feist, of course -- it was one of the Feistalikes. Yael Nayeen, or however it's spelled.** And the Chapman was pretty heavy in KFOG rotation back when it was current.
1) Beginnings - Chicago
2) New Beginning - T Chapman
3) Starting Over - John/Yoko
4) New Soul - Yael Nayeen
5) New Frontier - D Fagen
6) Take it As it Comes - Doors
7) Time Is On My Side - Stones
8 ) Better Days - Goo Goo Dolls
9) Better Things - Kinks
10) Auld Lang Syne - Smithereens
**ETA: apparently it's Yael Naim. Whatevs.
