Which I remembered and fixed after my initial post, but not quickly enough!

A glam twin-spin! I seem to remember DM doing something like this in a '72 set once. Or was that with All The Young Dudes?

VHM Johnny Cash pimpin' for Amoco.

And BOS3, Deep Purple, Highway Star. One of the best driving songs ever, particularly if you're 17.

Big fat tires and everything.

Also the first bustout of the day.

rocking BOS for Deep Purple!

Nobody gonna take my girl I'm gonna keep her to the end
Nobody gonna have my girl she stays close on every bend
Ooh she's a killing machine she's got everything
Like a moving mouth, body control and everything

I Love her, I need her, I seed her

OMGWTFLOL to the "Nixon Now" campaign song.

VHM Joe Tex, tryin' to ease on in -- guess he wants to seed her.

That's our Dave. (Or was, anyway.) Smoke on the Water, yes, but no other tracks from Machine Head. I'd love to hear Lazy some time.

Wow, another def. blast straight out of '72: Joe Tex, I Gotcha.

Run! Run! Run! Gunne! Gunne! Gunne!

proxy of GazWOS, iirc.  But always a flashback for me -- one of those songs I heard on AT40 that weren't really overexposed on NYC radio.

BOS4 Jo Jo Gunne.

This is sounding very much like a '72 set DM would have put together, even including the Deep Purple. Very midwestern.

now that was not only an ATBB, but a heckuva segue into it.  Uber BOS Neil Young  "A Man Needs A Maid".

Whodathunk that Neil Young would bring the string of giuitar tunes to a screeching halt?

Yep.

Digging into the DB I see how one-dimensional Dave could be in his song choices. In ''69 sets he only ever played Cinnamon Girl; in '71 and '72, he only played Old Man, and in '74 he only played Walk On--a lot. (On the other hand, in '70 he has about 7 different songs he'd choose from. Weird.)

Nah, I think the song's silly (only one-line verses?) but not a WOS.

Meanwhile, BOS to Brandy and all those lonely sailors.

VHM the fabulous Chi-Lites. This and "I Gotcha" were in the top 5 at the same time -- May of '72. I remember going out to dinner for my birthday and coming home in time for the last half-hour of Casey Kasem.

Brandy, you're an overplayed girl.

Hard to believe it, but HWNN is nearly a bustout, only one appearance in a theme set prior to this.  At least the 3rd one-timer in this set.

Hey, if James Taylor could be a junkie, why not these guys? Although if they were, you'd have to assume they'd be a little more discreet about it.

OMGWTFLOL to the "Nixon Now" campaign song.

Wow, he really had some hackneyed campaign jingles, no?

I was listening to an old '72 set last night, which included a different but equally smarmy Nixon ad, the lyrics of which went something like this:

Richard Nixon is the man
He'll do everything he can
To bring peace to our land
Through the guiding of god's hand

See, the fundies were throwing the almighty's name around even then.
