Woo freakin' hoo!
-
I know Mike loves this Blues Magoos tune even more than I do!
-
BOS1 Beatles (yay)
uber-BOS2 the Blues Magoos -- making their 2nd appearance in the AL era, iirc.
-
Woo freakin' hoo!
And yay for "She Said She Said". Good TOTHK. And a BOS for the Blues Magoos hoping they get some.
-

indeed -- quite simply one of the 10 best rock singles evah, IMHO.
-
BOS3 the original JJ Jackson (not the one from MTV).
-
VHM to the forgotten J.J. Jackson. (Points dinged for rhyming "told you so" with "reap what you sow," though.)
-
Great guitars on The Beatles tune.
It's all right, all right now...
-
the Julian Bond story reminds: did you see the story yesterday about the guy who can't get seated as a local councilman in N carolina because he's an atheist? What year is this?
VHM Bobby Hebb, one of those OHWs that became a standard.

No, I missed that! Grr!
VHM to Hebb (who co-wrote Sweet Lou Rawls' "Natural Man"). Bus BOSFRA to instrumental Pet Sounds action!

thanks for the ID -- I don't own this album, shamefully. BOS4. And BOS5 the Spoonful -- gawd I loved these guys.
-
Whoa, BustOut(S) for the Lovin' Spoonful? Nice chimes.
-
OMG! the real Radio Caroline!!!

Title is "Let's Go Away for a While," IIRC.
Would be amazing to get something from the Airplane's debut album ...
-
And the weirdness just keeps on coming with Bob's "Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat". Yeah!
-
OMGWTFLOL! BOS6 Dylan, in the princess of cairo's leopardskin fez, er, pillbox hat!

"ah got a gal named Diddy Wah Diddy". Er, wha? VHM for some blues you can use.
-
all hail Super Diamond! BOS7 "Cherry Cherry", movin' & groovin'
-
Any Mad Men fans out there are familiar with how the advertising industry was still pretty straightforward in the early 60s... "Here's a product and why you want it." I think the late 60s was when things started to get less "literal" in ad copy and more conceptual and humorous. That Toronado ad had bongos, sure, and the car itself is beautifula dn modern, great angles... but the old man's stiff voice over seems out of place, like it marks this car as one the older demographic would want.
He asked "How's it drive, Bobby?" Was that Bobby Unser?

I just noticed that AL doesn't say "Yay" after mentioning the Beatles.
-

I won tix to a Super Diamond show years ago, and they made me a Neil fan! I went out and bough Hot August Nights on vinyl!
-

Hey! Happy Birthday, Joe! Almost missed it!
-
Has this Michael Franti song come back into heavy rotation after falling off for a while? They're playing it a lot all of a sudden, it seems.
-
Damn! I could've probably heard the whole thing if I had planned. Finals week here.
-
A Monkees bonus on the way!
"I thought love was only true in Gazzy tales..."
-

Damn, what an awesome set. Is it just me, or is AL playing a far greater percentage of 1960's sets?

It's not just you--AL is playing one 60s set per week, or nearly so. As well as two 70s, one 80s, and a theme set of some kind. Pretty sweet, imo.
Digging You Didn't Have To Be So Nice--a no-brainer BOS. Somewhere I have a recording of John Sebastian with NRBQ as his backing band doing a whole set of Spoonful hits. Irresistible pop.
-
8. John Mayall Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton - Hideaway (BOS)
I just realized what song this was--Geoff, can you confirm that the Dead performed Hideaway way back when? If memory serves, I've heard recordings of them doing it.
And I think Tom Petty covered both Hideaway and Diddy Wah Diddy when he and the HBs did their month-long residency at the Fillmore back in 97.

In 1983 I sold John Sebastian and his young son swimsuits at a NJ hotel shop where I was working that summer. I still have the original sales receipt with his autograph. He was very nice, as was his son, but his wife was real crabby. You Didn't Have To Be So Nice was not about her!

I've worked with John a few times on guitar stuff, and he's a great guy; never met wife.

lucky to catch the Saturday replay, and a tasty set indeed. Major props for the Beach Boys, Beatles, Bluesbreakers, Spoonful, Dylan, and Captain Beefheart cuts.

Likewise & likewise. Very sorry to have missed this the first time around.
