it's either 4/20/05 or 5/17/07. we'll see.
ETA: I very much hope it's the latter, but each is pretty good. Your favorite Norwegians and an ex-Eagle show up either way.
-
That was a great video... G&C
-
And it's the latter! Yay & uber Best of Set for my favorite U2 song.
The Edge finally started listening to Hendrix before this record. You'll never convince me otherwise.
...sunshine, sun shine on me...

HM to Alvin the Chipmunk who makes a cameo at the end there.

BOS #2 JCM as a poignant counterpoint to Ronald Ray-Gun's audio clip.

Ditto the BOS -- great seg and I still like this song despite its overreaching metaphors.

take yer broken wing and shove it!
-
take yer broken wing and shove it!
The only thing worse than this song is that execrable E-trade commercial with the babies that uses it.
-
take yer broken wing and shove it!
so "the Book of Love will open up and let us in" qualifies as an overreaching metaphor that you don't like? :o :o :o

gawd how I hate those spots. Talking Babies = CREEPY.
EOL: A-Ha.

preemptive Jinx on anyone searching for an a-ha graphic.

I was never fond of Mr Mister, Mr man.

EOL: A-Ha.
what does EOL mean here? I'm stuck in manufacturing lingo, where EOL means a part number has reached 'End Of Life'.

oops, I meant to type ESL (English as a Second Language).
Huey arrives to show us the power of katrinas -- jeez, the orig Katrina isn't in this set, is it?
-
Love the quotes from the movie, but Huey is the Katrina of Katrinas, soundly defeating the namesake in her own year.
"You wanna Pepsi, you're pay for it."
but with that I'm hitting the road for an appointment.
My final BOS goes to the next tune, #7.

no, you're safe.

i understand completely. When I hear TPOL, I think "I Want A New Song"

Yup, easy BOS for "Can't There from Here". REM was really a bright spot for me in the 80s.
-
Picked a good day to be late to the party, although I'm sorry to have missed the U2 song. C'est la vie.
BOS REM.
-
Philomath is where I'll go.

Took me a few time-outs to say so, though. :/
-

HM to "When Your Cock Is Weak" from Heart Robin.
What's the thought process that leads you to call yourself "Cock Robin"?
-
BOS1 to Godley & Creme...I didn't realize that Simple Minds had lifted "Cry" (title track of '02 flop) until I heard it last year!
and BOS2 to Mr. Mr. Love that song. Though if it was "Kyrie" it would have been WOS, easily.
VHM's to U2, A-Ha (only because I BOS'd it last time & didn't feel like BOS'ing it twice in a row), REM, and Cock Robin.
-
Yup, easy BOS for "Can't There from Here". REM was really a bright spot for me in the 80s.
Dave,
Don't know that you'd have ever met, and possibly I already asked you, but one of Chris' freshman dormmates at Flo-Mo was a guy named Jeff Selman who is now a prominent VC lawyer in Palo Alto. And one day a couple years ago I called him up and said "Are you at all an R.E.M. fan?" "Yeah, sure." "Have you ever paid attention to the lyrics from 'Can't Get There From Here'?...'cuz there's a recurring line about 'Lawyer Jeff'".
and he said "Cool, let me check that out."
WOS #2, Cockrobin. "Holy Homoerotic Double-Entendre, Batman!"
BOS #3 Kate Bush. Insert tragic anecdote that I don't have time for as now I really have to jump in the car and head south.
-
BOS2 the fabulous Kate and her fabulous Bush.
-
Overall BOS for Kate Bush. I really like her, and "Running Up that Hill" is a good one.
-
HM to miss Bush, BOS to U2
-

see my comment above!!!
-
OMG Kate Bush!! One of my favorite songs of all time. BOS3.
This seemed to be a Dave fave for this year but I have yet to hear it in the Annalisa era.
-
HM to "When Your Cock Is Weak" from Heart Robin.

the same thought process that leads you to call yourself "Kate Bush"?

I love this newspaper joke.
The Chronicle's hed would be "World to End: Bay Area quality of life may suffer"
-
BOS3 Jan Hammer's theme from the show that influenced my fashion sense for the next several decades.
-
uh-oh! Dave's voice! somebody screwed up.
-
And we actually get to hear Dave's backsell!!! Yay! (Hope Dave's agent doesn't find out.)

Hey it IS a Dave set! No wonder we got those Dave Faves! (Did we know this was a Dave set?)
-
Lol...Miami Vice. This gets BOS4.
and BOS5, I guess, to not editing Dave out @ the end.
(Hey, did anyone else notice the sweeper that said 'for the set list for this 10 @ 10 classic, go to the 10 @ 10 page?' I think that editing Dave out is just going to be the standard practice from now on & they are going to play this. They must have forgot again this morning.)
-
bonus BOS, Dave's back-announce: 'take...these chicken wings...and learn to fry..."
bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!
-
And we actually get to hear Dave's backsell!!! Yay! (Hope Dave's agent doesn't find out.)
note that Webster's post-backsell backsell said "for the setlist go to the website" -- methinks that was meant to replace Dave, not follow him. Oops.

BOS #3 Kate Bush. Insert tragic anecdote that I don't have time for as now I really have to jump in the car and head south.
This story has stuck with me ever since you first told me about it. Has everyone here heard it? I don't remember enough details to retell, just the payoff.
-
Philomath is where I'll go.
I never noticed that line before, but damned if that isn't what he's singing. Apparently there's a Philomath in Georgia as well as the one outside Corvallis, OR. 'Cept that, according to Google Maps it appears to be little more than a wide spot in the road.

I was wondering what this was. Any clues?

At the risk of being off on the details: Someone was swimming in a lake, and a jet skier darted through, hitting the person in the head, and skiing away instead of providing help. That person suffered brain injury as a result - and on the occasion Mshray recalls, called a radio station to request this song, dedicating it to the person who'd hit and run.
"If I only could, I'd make a deal with God, and I'd get him to swap our places," indeed.
-
Philomath ...
Lawyer Jeff
etc.
I just think it's completely amazing that you guys can actually make out ANY of the lyrics Stipe is singing (except for the refrain and opening lie "When the world is your monster..."). To me, this song is one big mumbly-mumble.

The only details you are off on is that it was in San Diego's Mission Bay, not a lake, and she'd been windsurfing & taken a spill, not just swimming.
