..due to be an 80s year, but who knows with the unpredictable "classics" schedule?
ETA: Eighties indeed! Some love for Radicaldigits347! And we're strolling like Tutankhamun...oh-ay-oh!

Julian Cope, flying in the face of fashion now. "World Shut Your BOS"

nice picture, but Dave only ever played this twice in the past 5 years, the same amount as "Hairstyles & Attitudes" which I considered to be one of his all-time deep tracks.

See, now this is a bonafide Katrina, appearing in 24% of all sets from...1987, oops!

anyone wanna guess how often Dave played "Sledgehammer" in the Db era?
-
;D
They introduced it as a 10 at 10 "Classic"...lol.
I remember this set...not quite as thrilling as some of her other 80s sets, but I'm not complaining. If I remember right, we're looking forward to some Pet Shop Boys and OMD...or Level 42...or one of those sounding songs by those types of bands (I think).

Yep, Legalize Our Love would more likely qualify as a K, having shown up in virtually every Pride set in the DB (2003 is missing, must have fallen during the lapse in data).
VHM Sledgehammer, PG's funky foray into the charts via prancing poultry.

but who do you know that has a "fruit cage"? That line still baffles me.
BOS2 Mr Buongiovi! Mmmmm... cheeeze...

When Annalisa mentioned big hair in the intro, she was actually talking about John Bongiovi!

VHM Smithereens -- their sound was fresh in '86. Too bad they ran it into the ground.

I'll see your Shrimpton hair & raise you!

ETA: courtesy of Wikipedia:
Shrimpton graduated from Lucie Clayton's modelling school at the age of 17 in 1960.
By the time she was 18, Shrimpton was already internationally famous with her face having appeared on the covers of Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and Vanity Fair.[3]
In 1965, Shrimpton caused a sensation in Melbourne, Australia, when she arrived for the Victoria Derby race during Melbourne Cup week. She shocked everybody by wearing a white shift dress which ended 10 cm (3.9 in) above her knees, a forerunner of the miniskirt which became a worldwide craze (this dress was designed and made by the young fashion designer, Colin Rolfe). Moreover, she wore no hat, stockings or gloves and wore a man's watch, which was very unusual at the time. Shrimpton was unaware she would cause such reactions among the then-prim Melbourne community and media.
In her article "The Man in the Bill Blass Suit", Nora Ephron tells of the time when Jean Shrimpton posed for a Revlon ad in an antique white Chantilly lace dress by Bill Blass. Minutes after the lipstick placard hit the drugstores, the Revlon switchboard lit up with calls from women demanding to know where they could buy the dress.[4]
The fashion trendsetter was also a heartbreaker to many glamorous men she knew during her time as a world famous cover girl (including a stint as the face of Yardley of London). She was once engaged to '60s photographer David Bailey, on whom the David Hemmings character in the movie Blowup was based. They met on a shoot for a Corn flakes advertisement. His friend told him she was too posh for him, but Bailey was undeterred and the two subsequently had a relationship for four years. Her other celebrated romance was with actor Terence Stamp. As one of the most beautiful couples among the trendy denizens of Swinging London, the two seemed a perfect couple to outsiders, but Shrimpton dumped him, citing the actor's narcissism. Stamp has said that the break-up pushed him into anguish and despair, while she was quoted in a newspaper interview saying she doubted he ever loved her.[citation needed]
Shrimpton eventually found a more enduring love with her photographer husband Michael Cox, with whom she has a son, born in 1981. They currently run a small hotel in Penzance, Cornwall. Her younger sister Chrissie was also an actress, romantically linked to both Mick Jagger and Steve Marriott of The Small Faces.
She was mentioned in the Smithereens song "Behind the Wall of Sleep", which contains the opening lyrics "She had hair like Jeannie Shrimpton back in 1965".

now THIS is a Moreytrina: The Call.
Yes, but oh god I love this song. BOS. It sounds like something that should be played alongside "Don't You (Forget About Me)" on every Hot AC station.
-
And BOS2 to the Pet Shop Boys!
-
I'll see your Shrimpton hair & raise you!
Just watched Peter Watkins' satirical Privilege the other night. Stars Paul Jones as a pop star media product and Jean Shrimpton as the artist who tries to help him break out of his gilded gage.
The extras on the DVD Include a film done in 1962 called Lonely Boy, a documentary of the rising pop star Paul Anka. The Film Board of Canada produced it, and Peter Watkins made no secret that he based much of Privilege on the Paul Anka movie.

BOS3 PSBs.

I'll take this over most of the other Call songs we're subjected to.

OMG -- Privilege is a MAJOR fave of mine, I've been urging Gaz to see it for years. Great stuff, and very much of its time. "And did those feet, in ancient time..."

I'd already peeked by the time you posted this, but it's not as much as I'd have guessed. Which I should have guessed.

BOS "knocking down tables". If I were an advertising genius I would use this for an Ikea ad...

yes, of a certain time for sure. I had problems with the staging of some scenes (like the stadium scene), but Watkins did a lot with what he had. (I also have at home his 5+ hour movie La Commune (Paris 1871), not sure if I'll get through it in one or even three sittings)

Yes, but he's lying through his teeth! His videos of the period were aimed at turning everyone on! Him in his impeccable attire for the ladies & the chicks in his 'backing band' for the gents.

whoa whoa whoa, yeah!
BOS +1 to the bonus track, Rat In Mi Kitchen.
I'm gonna fix that rat.
bonus trivia: what other major artist of an earlier age gets a credit on this track?

I'm guessing maybe that's Herb Alpert on trumpet (since UB40 were on A&M). He was busy in the '80s (see: "Diamonds" feat Janet Jackson)
