Judge on KPOO is doing a "salute to 1970" at 2pm today.
-
Lawd! Judge starts his 1970 tribute early with Flaming Ember's forgotten nugget "I'm Not My Brother's Keeper". Superb.
-
Hope Gaz is in the vicinity of a radio this afternoon: Delfonics, "When You Get Right Down To It".
-
Didn't the Delfonics blow mah mind this afternoon? And here's a Brook Benton re-recording of "Rainy Night in GA" -- is the orig hard to find?
-
better times, brighter days -- the Supes on the ladder to roof, closer to heaven.
Followed by more Gaz-tastic-ness: "Love Or Let Me Be Lonely"
-
Judge says "Band of Gold" only got to #20 on the R&B chart -- WTF?
OMG-- it's "Viva Tirado"!
-
Hope Gaz is in the vicinity of a radio this afternoon: Delfonics, "When You Get Right Down To It".
DAY-um! more Delfonics ('70 was a very good year for them): "Trying to Make a Fool of Me".
-
I did not know that: Judge sez Stevie's "Signed Sealed..." was a demo and Berry Gordy decided to release it "as is" -- can't improve perfection! And after Stevie we get his fab production of "It's a Shame".
-
Ronnie Dyson wants to touch you -- say yes! I am truly in Soul Nirvana this afternoon. And now Miss Ross takes us to the edge with the loooooooooooooooong version of "ANMHE".
-
Lost gem of the day: the Whispers' powerful "Seems Like I Gotta Do Wrong" And more social comment from Stevie: "Heaven Help us All".
Heaven help the boy who won't reach 21
Heaven help the man who gave that boy a gun
one of my favorite lines ever -- never fails to give me chills.
-
You GOTS to "Pay to the Piper" -- ask yo' MAMA!
and now one of Gladys' finest hours: "If I Were Your Woman", you'd still have a dozen other wives, you Mormon bastard.
as we get to the end of 1970 (Judge did chrono order, pretty much) we're told next Monday will be 4 hours of '71 -- damn, the next 9 weeks will be golden!
-
NTM from JJ on KPOO: Little Gary Ferguson, "A Mother's Love" -- sounding like MJ.

Holy Moly! the Evergreen Blues with the orig version of "Midnight Confessions" on 'LNG -- NTM and sadly not avail on YouTube. The GrassRoots did it pretty much note-for-note.
However I did find the Karla DeVito cover, classically dreadful '80s video:
