indeed -- plus, it seems like we just did '89... but it was April 18th.  We won't escape FYC-less this thime, I'll wager.

Thankfully, I'm off to a meeting.

I was about to say that at least Dave's off to a good start by playing the other non-Katrina track from the Nevilles since "Yellow Moon" was the 2nd biggest Katrina after "Good Thing".

But before I could finish that thought ......

No, "Good Thing" is the Big Katrina, "She Drives Me Crazy" was the lesser of the the two.  And "Don't Look Back" is the one he never plays

You couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting "She Drives Me Crazy" in '89. To make it worse- the song bugs after awhile. I guess that's what I meant by "overplayed" as opposed to "Katrinafied".

They were both #1 hits, but in 18 sets I surveyed last year, the score was 12 Good Things & 4 She Drives Me Crazys, and only 2 FYC-free sets.

Everyone pull out the lighters for "When I See You Smile," a lazy vocal from Mr. Waite that nevertheless shot Bad English to #1.  (The preceding single, "Forget Me Not," was far superior, and so of course it tanked at #45 or thereabouts.)

So I missed "She Drives Me Crazy" (one of my least favorites of all time) and Lou's "Dirty Boulevard," eh?  What else?  (I just got off the phone, was interviewing Barry Scott of the Lost 45s radio show for this Voice piece.  Very nice guy, and he loves being corrected by people who listen to his show with Whitburn in hand.)

This song would be better if, like, Poison had done it.

No, you missed "Good Thing". But, I mentioned I was glad it wasn't the other overplayed (in '89) one ("She Drives Me Crazy") becuase I hate that song, too.

But, then Mshray wanted to make sure I totally understoof that "Good Thing" was the official Katrina and "She Drives Me Crazy" was indeed hardly ever played on 10at10. And I said "OK".

GT is the more overplayed of the two, no doubt, but SDMC has earned a Katrina status all its own.  And, I would suggest, HFH status (though I'm apparently alone in that camp).

Oh, to hear "Batdance" or "BUffalo Stance" ...

The Traveling Wilburys haven't aged well, I would argue.  These songs wouldn't have gotten on the radio if not for celebrity cachet.  At least they learned from this song never to put Dylan on a harmony vocal.

or "Bust a Move" or "Walk the Dinosaur".  And even if Dave wasn't listening to anything other than KFOG in '89, surely there are dozens of other songs he could play but chooses not to.

anything that put Roy Orbison on the radio can't be all bad.  In December of that year I bought a RO GH album -- and two days later he died.

Speaking of Dylan,  they played some Wallflowers early this morning & I called in & mentioned to Dave that Jakob's dad has a birthday coming up on Tues & that I had an idea for a 10@10 theme set.  He asked me to elaborate & I said that, recalling his cow-bell set from last year, maybe we could have a harmonica set, since any 10-song set featuring the harmonica would certainly include a Dylan tune.

He said, "That's a pretty good idea, I'll look into it."
