The Who!
The Real Me
Starting right out of the gate with hot bass licks. Will there be a better BBOS?
-
EX-cellent! '69 and '73 back to back, this week is starting out exceptionally well!
BOS1 The Real Me.
-
will have to bail before this is over for another "webinar", but a nice start with the 'oo.

OTOH, nowhere to go but down. Hope AL has a cool theme set planned in there somewhere.
-
we had professional development this AM, so I'm enjoying a rare 10@10 during my time-shifted prep period.
-
BOS Helen "Hell On" Wheels.

BOS1 The Real Me.
Crap. I tuned in late and missed everything except "Can you see the real me me me me me". Possibly my favorite Who tune, and a bass extravaganza.
-
BOS to The Real Me
-
the Mercury Marquis ad reminds me of the SNL skit about the bris in the back of a car!
Steve Miller Band!
-
Steve Miller Band!
VHM "Sha-Ba-da-Doo-ma-Ma-Ma-ma", nice to hear something besides "The Joker".
-
more bass solo!
-
Three for three on the BOS scoreboard so far, and a bustout to the SMB tune, whatever the hell it's called--Shabadadoo ma-ma-ma-ma?
-
more bass solo!
Yah, the extravaganza continues!

Steve Miller Band!
I saw that in my head as I was listening to the commercial. Good times!
-
Billy Preston going round in circles!

Aside: The Joker has appeared only in Vertical Tastings representing '74, never in a strictly year-based set.
HM, Billy P.

indeed, an ATBB -- no one's ever dredged that one up, in any time zone.
VHM Billy Preston, "Will it go 'round mah Afro?"

Was thinking this EJ song was a bustout, too, but nay. One previous appearance in the DB, in a '73 set two years ago.
-
mmmm... Hawaiian Punch and Elderberry Wine!

ETA: do they still make "Sunshine Yellow" Hawaiian Punch? I always prefererred it to the red.
-
this is a time stamp of when the next song after EJ starts on radio broadcast. I'll hit post at beginning. Someone else figure out stream delay.
-
fun set. That Steve Miller is NTM but a welcome change from his usual. man, people drank some fun-kay stuff back then. I remember my fifth grade teacher mentioning dandelion wine to another, older teacher. The older teacher had this look on her face like "Who IS this hippie?"
-
LAWD! BOS2 the Pointers' "Yes We Can Can" -- JJ played the Lee Dorsey version (from '71) a couple weeks ago.
-
HM to Pointer Sisters.
I missed hearing Allen Toussasint at HSBG, but I did see him at Stern Grove a couple years back. heard him give his before-show talk, a nice relaxed hour-long interview.
-
Uno mas BOS, The Pointers, Yes We Can Can. Allen Toussaint's anthem, which should have been the theme song of the Obama campaign if it wasn't.
And one more for All the Way From Memphis.
Some spade said, "rock 'n rollers, you're all the same...."
Not exactly PC, but...
-
BOS3 Mott -- all the way from Memphis! out on the dole, still on parole.
hate to have to bail, but duty calls...
-
another BOS to Mott The Hoople!
I love how Scorsese used this song in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore

That sounded really good today. A cool arrangement with the Pointers providing most of the sound, with a funky bass thrown in to fit today's theme ;)
-
VHM to Tony Randall and Jack Klugman
-
A near BOS for Stealers Wheel, Stuck In the Middle, a song that shall forever evoke the image of Michael Madsen.
-
cool, AL using a credited Moreyism "Top of the Hour Cooker!"
-
WOS to Paul Simon doing that white-faux-Jamaican accent attempt that always grates on me. (See also: Bryan Adams' "Reggae Christmas" and some Chicago song whose title I'm blanking on.)
-
Just noted that this is our second visit to '73 in less than a month--last time was on Sept 11--and once prior to that in the Annalisa era, in late July.
Pretty BOS-worthy set, including the finale, Was a Sunny Day.
"She called him Speedo, but his christian name was Mr. Earl."

eez no worse den white boys trying to be gangsta rappers, mon. Or Jazn Mrazzz trying to sound like he's 6 years old. ;)

Ha! That was me again. I was in the car, late for a meeting, but glad of it since I got to hear everything up to the opening strains of Billy Preston. Called Annalisa and said that I doubted anything could top the Who today, and give it my vote.
I further said that "this was what Dave Morey would call a Top of the Hour Kooker (with a K)...are you allowed to use terms like that still?"
Unfortunately her reply was a bit garbled by poor cellular reception, and then I missed the back announce.
