Famous conservative -- Nixon/Agnew speechwriter and more recently an Iraq War cheerleader -- but I alwyas liked and admired his writings on the correct use of the English language (satirized below by the Onion).

"This, of course, is a grievous grammatical blunder, akin to saying 'passerbys' or, worse yet, the dreaded 'attorney generals.'" Last week, Safire patronized a midtown Taco Bell, ordering "two Big Beef Burritos Supreme."

Another conservative icon, the nefarious Irving Kristol, died last week; I opted not to start a RIH thread/issue.
