Oh, what shall it be?
-
1973!
-
rain on me!
'73. can we get led zep's 'the rain song,' too?
-
Woohoo! Early BOS, the Who.
hey man, it's reigning outside -- jimi
-
Love Reign O'er Mer
-
1973! My favourite year!
Love reign o'er me (or as I used to mondegreen it, "Love? Rain? or Me?")
-
Appropriate TOTHC, given the weather...
ETA: rain vs reign: I guess it's both. Pete's a clever boy.
-
Trying diffreent boards for diff. topics? Here only till after 10@10?
-
oooh, a theme.
-
Trying different boards for diff. topics? Here only till after 10@10?
it makes structural sense, but there's always the stream of consiousness for those that don't want to do it this way.
-
and we can get led zeppelin, too! ok, so what are our other rain guesses?
-
I can;t stand the rain either. Stayed home today

That's the way I see it. When 10at10's over, bop over to whichever 'thread' is relevant (if you're listening to something on CG, post in the CG Thread, if you're listening to The Drive, post in that thread. If it's "misc", post in the 'Streams' thread, etc)
Or do I have my head up my ass?
-
Personally, I can't stand the reign.
-
in 1973 I was working in the Post Office down at Rincon Annex, and in another place nearby doing parcels during xmas. It was indeed dark and gloomy, and the song always reminds me of it.
-
NEW BOS!!!
Give it to ME!!!
-
Seconding Rod's BOS vote for Geils!
-
I came in during I Can't Stand the Rain--had a 9:00 meeting--better than 10, but not when you've got to be in the office and functioning at that hour. (I know, I could have worse problems...)
-
Or do I have my head up my ass?
That would be an, uh, interesting avatar.
-

ha! i never knew the name of the song was 'love REIGN o'er me'
-
nice little set here
-
and heeere's yer Zep! No Rain Song, but hey.
"dance the hootchie coo"
-
sing out hari hari
The rain song remains the same?
-
Alicat, I created your Mondegreen topic. It's over in the 'Streams of Conciousness' thread...
http://10at10club.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=511#511
Or is it a mondegreen thread in the 'Streams of' topic? I dunno. But, that's where it is.

"dance the hootchie coo"
"california sunshine" is always better!
-
yummy yummy gladys.
i could go for 'behind closed doors,' too.
-
VHM them Pips, "Woo-Woo". Tho' I'd've preferred "Daddy Could Swear, I Declare"
-
nice little set here
Yes indeedy--some rock (Who, Zep), some r&b (Ann Peebles, Gladys + Pips), a hybrid of the two (Geils)--the makings of a very fine set indeed. Wonder what other nuggets we have in store?
-
here I go again! Big jukebox at the El Amigo restaurant on Mission (near 30th? Long gone) blasting "Midnight Train to Georgia" and eating their flautas!
I wonder if anyone else remembers Bok Food Wonton on Mission near Van Ness?
-
I like when the Pips say: "I know you will".
-
VHM Midnight Train to GA; it's good being home. Tunes turned up, singing along.....
-
when Garry Trudeau put Gladys & the Pips in a Doonesbury strip? Singing "Midnight Train to Cranston"? Mostly focused on the Pips--it was hilarious--I'll have to see if I can find it on the web.
Hmmm, what's this in SH6 position? Sounds vaguely like Cat Stevens, but not quite.
-
BOS Strawbs! "Lay Down". Methinks this is a breakout!

me, too!! a gomer!!
-
Hey, did we tell Dave Morey we were here? Someone should zap him a link.

yeah, i thought it was cat at first, too.
then there's the gladys-less pip skit from 'the richard pryor show.' they pips sing backup, and the camera focuses on a mic stand when gladys is supposed to be singing.
-

I think you;re right. And a Gomer to boot, if I'm defining that term correctly.
-
Sounds vaguely like Cat Stevens, but not quite.
It never occurred to me before, but yeah, he does sound kinda like the cat man.
-
another california song!
mmmm....oleander.
-
another california song!
mmmm....oleander.
Uh, William & Mary's in Virginia.
Oh I get it. "California tumbles into the sea".
-
I thought they were singing about Virginia, that's the only Annandale I know of.
-
jinx!
-
Pretty awesome set. Need cd.
-
I thought they were singing about Virginia, that's the only Annandale I know of.
I thought it was a reference to Bard University in NY. Annandale on Hudson. One or both of Fagen & Becker went there, I think.
Oops, I stand corrected--Bard College.

-
what electric company! :)
-
BOS (yeah another one)
Dancing in the Moonlight
-
Woo Hoo! "Electric Company". Morgan Freeman before he was anybody.
And "Dancing in the Moonlight"! This is definitely Set O' The Week, unless we get a '60s trip on Friday
-
"Everybody here is outta sight, they don't bark & they don't bite."
so is the singer singing from the standpoint of being a dog in a nocturnal pack?
-
Dancin' in the Moonlight, and the artist is on the tip of my tongue (instead of in my brain, so I remember who it is.)
-
see previous post subject: king harvest
-
Urth: Can you make me a CD of the set? Please?
-
Buckingham-Nicks?
-
So what's the deal with this one? I've never heard this version before.
-
Buckingham-Nicks?
Likely. That definetely sounds like a goat singing harmony.
-
see previous post subject: king harvest
Yep that would be it.
OK, smart guy, who's this?
It sounds like Stevie Nicks on backing vox--could it be another Buckingham-Nicks nugget? If so, BOS3
-
oops, nearly busted by the visiting cow orker! better let discretion be the better part of valor.
apropos said visitor, my participation may be limited this week & next week I'll be in TX for most of the time.
oh well
-
see previous post subject: king harvest
nit picking, maybe, but "Post Subject" is in a font so small I didn't even notice it until now. Can this be futzed with?
-

you guys are so hard on the gypsy! :)
-
Tasteful finish. A Friday 60's set would have to go some to top this one.
-
Urth: Can you make me a CD of the set? Please?
This one is too good to miss. I think I'm home tonight, so will give it the old college try. Anyone else?
Btw, POC, you asked for the 68 set from a couple fridays ago? Sorry to say, there's static all over the tape so it's unlistenable from about SH6 on. Sorry.
Will try to avoid such things tonite.
-

i don't even bother writing anything in the subject field, unless it's a new forum topic.
-
VHM Chicago, "Just You'n'Me". Dave doesn't play this one very often, tho' it was the biggest hit from that album.
-
Yeah, Crystal from the Buckingham Nicks LP (hear the vinyl?)
At the time, the in joke was that there were no oleanders in Annandale, thus the confusion you young'uns have!

I love Stevie, actually. But "South Park" is an evil influence.

it's ok - i completely forgot about it until just now. :) how do you make cds from cassettes, though?

I've noticed that too, and think it must be customizable. I'll tweak later.

CD's from cassettes; LET ME KNOW HOW.
-
VHM Chicago, "Just You'n'Me". Dave doesn't play this one very often, tho' it was the biggest hit from that album.
Hmm, I would have guessed Feelin Stronger Every Day was a bigger hit, but it peaked at 10, Just You 'n Me hit #4 on the singles chart. I am indeed in awe.

Not cassettes, at least not analog. I record the set on DAT, usually during the evening repeat, and then burn from the DAT onto CD.
As for recording analog cassettes to CD, either get a DAT recorder like the one I have, plug your cassette deck into it to burn your discs:
http://www.mediasupply.com/cdr830.html
Or to do it via your computer, follow the instructions on this page, and whenever it says "turntable" insert the words "cassette deck":

swell, thanks!

In awe of me, or of Chicago? Or of Columbia's promotion dept?
Actually, I remembered that because they had a history of the second single from an LP doing better than the first.

So, with the software, I can plug my stereo w/cassette deck into my computer and dump audio into files then burn to CD? Is it as easy as it sounds?
-
if you made a recording of the set, I would also love to have a copy.
It's still January, but this was certainly the best Set of 2005, and will be hard to knock from that position.

OK, so is "anonymous" Alicat or POC? Or an as-yet-unnamed lurker?
I can't say for certain as I've never done it, but it should be fairly simple. Like most things tech, there's probably a learning curve but nothing ventured.... Let us know how it goes, OK? Thanks.

Yay!-The postal service comes thru again!
You're quite welcome. I'm slow, but I come thru eventually (kinda like the postal service.<g>)

I'd forgotten about this thread, but Rod just so happened to bring it back to mind with his above post on the same page.
It so happens that Sarah & I took the plunge and tried this process over the weekend to digitize some old air-checks she had from her college radio days that were on cheap cassettes that were starting to degrade.
And if you have a PC, it is as easy as it sounds. Follow the directions, install the software, plug your cassette deck into your computer and away you go. The first time took us a couple hours but a lot of that was playing with the software figuring out what did what. But the click removal and hiss removal worked as advertised, so we're quite happy. Will try it again later on some of the cassette-ified gems from the 10@10 archive.
