i've been listening, but unable to post 'til now.

The Alarm goes off and Gives Me Hope, but it doesn't work as I hit the snooze bar

Chewy Lewis and the Nooze Go Back in Time, which is the whole point of 10 At 10.

some General Public song I don't recognize, but if you heard one, you heard them all -- Dave Wakeling has a great voice...

The Alarm goes off and Gives Me Hope, but it doesn't work as I hit the snooze bar

actually that was "Strength"

'Cause I'm a man of emotions who can't hide the tears
I'm a man of feeling who can't hide the pain
I'm alone on the outskirts of town where no one knows my name
I'm at the point in my life where I need affection.

Won't you give me Love,
Give me Hope,
Give me Strength

even bigger Wooo Hooo & freaikin Bustout of the month: Shriekback "Nemesis"

In a jungle of the senses
Tinkerbell and Jack the ripper
Love has no meaning, not where they come from
But we know pleasure is not that simple
Very little fruit is forbidden
Sometimes we wobble, sometimes we're strong
But you know evil is an exact science
Being carefully correctly wrong

Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No one move a muscle as the dead come home

We feel like Greeks, we feel like Romans
Centaurs and monkeys just cluster round us
We drink elixirs that we refine
From the juices of the dying
We are no monsters, we're moral people
And yet we have the strength to do this
This is the splendor of our achievement
Call in the air strike with a poison kiss

Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No one move a muscle as the dead come home

Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No one move a muscle as the dead come home

How bad it gets, you can't imagine
The burning wax, the breath of reptiles
God is not mocked, he owns our business
Karma could take us at any moment
Cover him up, I think we're finished
You know it's never been so exotic
But I don't know, my dreams are visions
We could still end up with the great big fishes

Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No one move a muscle as the dead come home ..

10 frink pts to anyone who knows what 'parthenogenesis' means.

I know because Harlan Ellison once wrote an essay with that as the title.

ETA: anyone who liked the movie Manhunter, Shriekback did a big chunk of the soundtrack.

I'll guess based on context and my weak etymological skills:  becoming the thing you eat?

I like Manhunter -- should re-rent that one someday.

You're right TC, lots of Shray-friendly stuff in here.  I missed the Blue Nile song transitioning from car to desk, and was gonna post about the Jesus & Mary Chain song, but then Shriekback came on & I had to get my vote to Annalisa.

bwahahahahaha!!!  Good one!  I never thought of that.  Although other than yourself, I'm not too sure who else around here is even clear on who Harlan E. is.

it means when the offspring is not of the same species as the parent, like the nightmare Geena Davis had in The Fly.

isn't he that short Sci-fi writer, who is apparently a dick? (unlike Philip K.)

btw, wikipedia says parthenogeneisis is a form of asexual reproduction where the females eggs develop without fertilization, and the offspring will always be female in this case.

Yeah Harlan Ellison is said to have quite an ego. But brilliant writers often do. And he's certainly a brilliant writer; I recommend just about any short-story collection of his you can find.

Actually I didn't yesterday, but often do.  Tunes 3-9 were all bustouts, so that's not only 7, but 7 IN A ROW.  Moreover, other than Eurthymics, each of those was either the first or second song by that artist in the Db.

and yes, that means Dave only ever played one(!) Waits tune in the Db era.

Best 1985 set EVAH, not even close.  Kudos Annalisa!

wow. and that would be... "The Piano has been Drinking"? "Emotional Weather Forecast"?  "Downtown Train"? I can't remember. Ginger played a bunch of Waits songs, which I another reason I miss her 10@10s.

I think Ginger played all of those, but Dave only played "Union Square", 3 times.

I'm pretty sure he played Downtown Train once, too. I have it recorded at home.
