wow! I was beginning to think it was old-people's week!
Mungo Jerry ('70) and the lovely Gibb Bros, getting a BOS1. ('71).
-
Or is it a vert tasting... it's 1971 now...
ETA: VHM the bros Gibb, "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart"
-

yup. I missed the beginning. Damn cow orkers!
it would appear these are TopTen hits from this week in August...
-
sorry, AL, I don't care what ya call it -- it's still a Vertical Tasting. VHM Argent, holding it up.

Always good to hear Argent. Hope it's the looooong version.

that it is, my friend... that it is.
BOS to Argent
-
BOS, Mr. Argent, sounding mighty fine this morning. As far as top 10 hits in August, it will start going downhill (IMO) quickly from here.
-
Marvin tries to hold back his, er, feeling. Don't fight it, brotha!

why can't we... avoid Katrinas?
And if I may say, most of the newly-created drop-ins AL has been using (like those "Chartbusters" things) are really not very good. Note that the computer-voice sounders she started out with in June are all gone. I understand the desire to make the show her own (and she *has*, IMHO) but why not call a VT a VT -- did they think Dave would sue?

VHM, WAR
the color of your skin don't matter to me
as long as we can live in harmony
You betcha!

It's a by-product of this format -- if you are playing top 10s, most likely they've already been played a lot. A WHOLE LOT!!!

what's a drop-in? The recorded voice inserts? like "use my time machine and mess w people's minds!"
I wonder what happened to the new fan-based voiceover open auditions?
Let 'Em In! I say
-
Someone's knockin'. And it ain't Terry Gibbs!
-
This is what I was on about, things going downhill -- WOS Macca. Unless Rod rears his un-sexy head in '79...
-

Yup -- sorry, it's a radio term from an uber-radio-geek.
-
wow, Dave's all-time favorite song, covered (lazily) by Rita "I-wanna-be-Linda-Ronstadt" Coolidge.
-
I'm a dirty, hot-blooded white boy with double vision.
-
OK, I was an uncool music geek. I had Rita Coolidge records when I was a kid. There I said it.

You gotta be hot blooded when the object of your affection is cold as ice.

I suggest you close the window and calm the light. You'll feel better soon.
-
Mshray just called me (his BOS1 goes to Argent, and BOS2 to Foreigner) and wanted me to tell you that he phone AL to suggest a bonus track question:
"The Dave Mathhew Band Song Funny the Way it is -- which is heavy rotation on KFOG -- mentions one of the songs from todays set. Which song does it mention?"
so look up the answer if you don't know, and if AL uses that question, you'll have the chance to pick a top 10 hit from 1980! and win a new music sampler! tee hee!
VHM to Shray's dedication to the 10at10 club!!

If she's cold enough, you could end up with a blue morning, possibly a whole blue day.

yes, BOS2 to Lou Grammatico from Rochester NY

Oh, she was not untalented. But that LP was one of many at the time that took the Ronstadt template (let's do some ginned-up remakes!) and ran with it, with diminishing returns.
Sheesh, speaking of songs we've heard "a whole lot" -- I'm feeling Knack-ered.

or at least blue balls.

Sheesh, speaking of songs we've heard "a whole lot" -- I'm feeling Knack-ered.
It's not "Do You Think I'm Sexy" (aka, worst song ever), so I'm okay with it.

Honey, I can stand up and face the world again.

WOS to Foreigner! Never liked them.
HMto the Knack - I think, wait, I take that back

eta: shray called back to say AL will almost certainly use that bonus Q. Apparently she decided his quesion was better than her original:
name some things in Mungo Jerry Song that are absolutely WRONG things to do in proper society... like just not wise for you or your karma.. for instance:
Have a drink, have a drive
..
If her daddy's poor, just do what you feel
etc...
-
Eek, Emotional Rescue. I shaved my legs for this???
-
Yeesh!-factor continues: bonus is Mick on his fine ah-rahb chahhh-jahhh.

That's 3 in a row. AL's treading on thin ice with me >:(
*crosses fingers for 1998 tomorrow*

actually, '98 and '88 are the only years she has not done since taking over -- so in that sense, I'm rooting for ya. She systematically checked off every other year from '64 thru '99 and then started repeating. Which means that (in theory) we only get each year every 2 months, thanks to the addition of years Dave rarely-or-never did and one theme set per week. Although, for whatever reason, we got '74 twice in 3 weeks.

It'll be interesting to see how frequently years get repeated from here on. I'm wondering if she didn't go thru nearly every year without repeating just to get her feet wet, as sort of a self-imposed initiation or something. But now that she's done it we might start getting to hear some years more frequently. But she doesn't seem shy about visiting the 70s, or venturing further back in the 60s than Dave ever did, so I'm not too worried that we're going to start getting 90s sets three times a week (sorry, Radical!).
Too bad Shray's contribution got 86'd as the bonus question. Maybe next time.

she prolly figured it was too easy, given that they play that DMB song 87 times a week ;)

ha! I always thought she was singing "Close the window, come alive"
-
I've been urgently waiting for a girl like you to let me know what love is. That was yesterday - say (what) you will, but I don't want to live without you until the end of time.
-
Kind of a disappointing set - I'll give BOS to War, WOS to Wings.
