that was the day we left Hawaii, but at least on Kauai not much of a big deal was made of it.

There's a funny bit in the Onion about a new fringe group called the Afterbirthers.  They want to Obama to provide a bit of his placenta, or other birthing by-products ("at least a bloody sheet") to prove that he was born.
