or so the "clue" at the end of the marathon would indicate. "The year the Beatles made their first visit to the US". Woo Hoo!

-
we're doing this song at our next gig at Laguna Honda, and boy, we don't do it this well!
-
gonna be a quick set, eh?
indeed --strong possibility AL may make this one "go to 11" just to fill out 30 minutes.
damn, it's the "falling in love" version of "UTB", rather than "making love".
-
Oh no! oh no! oh No no no no no! Cheeze from the Shangri-las!
-
The Shangri-Las!
Walking in the Sand
didn't Aerosmith do this?
-
Sublime. Stones and now off to the Boardwalk.
My first impulse was to say "Sublime? they weren't even born yet in '64!"
-
I love the percussion on All Summer Long
-
The Shangri-Las!
Walking in the Sand
didn't Aerosmith do this?
Yes. Badly. Better to forget than remember.

I get so confused, I'm guessing Walk Don't Run 1964 Ventures
-
Ventures! BOS3 -- but is this the right version of "Walk Won't Run"?
-
Ventures! BOS3 -- but is this the right version of "Walk Won't Run"?
It's definitely different from the hit version, with a cheezy synth solo. Wow.
-
Trashmen! Surfin' Bird!
yow!
-
definite beach theme -- will we even get a Beatles song in this '64 set? Da bird is da WORD, y'alls!
-
Ventures! BOS3 -- but is this the right version of "Walk Won't Run"?
it's not the version I'm used to hearing. this is more bubbly.. I think it's called "Walk, Don't Run"
-
br brrrr brrrrr ba ba ba ba ba mah mah mow mow
doin the bird baby
-
I wouldn't recognize Shadows of a Night's version. Out here, Them had the hit Gloria
-
LAWD! Van the man as a boy! "G-L-O-R-I-A".
-
Trashmen! Surfin' Bird!
yow!
Now if she played "Birdbath", you'd really have something.
BOS for Van and Them.

typo on my part. They did remake it as "Walk Don't Run '64" and it was a hit again, but the orig is what is most often heard. For good reason, methinks.
-
Johnny Rivers Memphis.
Wow, did Chuck's version chart? I'm pretty sure Lonnie Mack's did
-
Johnny Rivers -- this is called Memphis, right? love this one. great guitars.
-
BOS4 Johnny Rivers. "Memphis" was the first time I realized that a song could have a "surprise" ending, or lead you down one road and then take a diff turn. Clever, that Mr Berry.
-
Oh yeah, Goldfinger! The hat's on the other foot now!
-
"my name is Pussy Galore"

-
Yep, that was fast. And damn cow orkers made me miss most of the Beatles. Though I think I know all those notes by now.

First song after wonderful 64 set is that "closer to love" song they keep playing, as some sort of "don't get your hopes up, come back to reality" statement of the state of current music. It's like when they used to follow the psychedelic supper with Rock the Casbah!

That song is another classic example of why Triple-A radio sucks."Let's throw Jason Mraz and Coldplay in a blender". great mondegreen tho' -- "We're all one phone call from our needs", which many hear as "...from our KNEES". LOL!
-
Bonus Track: Kinks "You Really Got Me"

I thought it was "knees." That was the only redeeming feature of the song!

oops... apparently it *is* "knees" -- there was an ongoing discussion in the YouTube comments section that I misread. [Emily Litella voice]Never mind![/Emily Litella voice]
Kearney and Jason Mrazzzzz apparently share a hat collection...

While I don't share the hate that Coldplay and Jason Mraz inspire, I have to agree that the Matt Kearny tune is drab, even by AAA standards. Personally it's reaching the Kenny Wayne Shepard level of annoyingness.

I think I'm turning the corner on Jazn Mrz. I heard I'm Yours last night and actually didn't mind it, didn't change the station and let it play all the way through. And I like a few Coldplay songs, like God Put A Smile Upon Your Face and Clocks, even though they might be derivative of this or that. (GPASUYF uses the riff from Roxy Music's Out Of The Blue , f'instance.)
ah, pop music.. can't we all just get along? :)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Fight it, Tink! Fight it with all your strength! Don't become one of.... THEM!! :o

I actually like the Matt Kearney song but I agree it's starting to get annoying. They don't need to play it that much, maybe once a day is ok.
Coldplay - I really tried to hate them. It wasn't hard at first because they kept on releasing extremely annoying songs (i.e. Yellow, In My Place) while the non-annoying ones (Trouble, Shiver) were rather forgettable. But these days they keep on coming out with very tolerable songs...I've found myself keeping on the radio during Speed of Sound, Life in Technicolor II, The Scientist, and the acoustic version of Lost. Clocks is good but I'm burned out on it.
Jason Mraz on the other hand - I was cool with him during "The Remedy" (which wasn't perfect, but likeable enough) & "You & I Both." Then he ruined me with "Curbside Prophet" ("what's up with M-R-A-Z?" Are you serious?) and hasn't redeemed himself since.
