Title: The Peak, 7/30/09: 1988
Post by: Tinka Cat on July 29, 2009, 07:09:34 AM
Cheap Trick's Don't Be Cruel starts us off.  Robin Zander has one great voice, so it's always a treat to hear him. but not a big fan of this cut.

REM's Pop Song 89 sounds so ... 88 to me.  HM.

before this we had Rhythm Corps Common Ground which sounded NTM.

I just tuned in, have never heard of Rhythm Corps.  VHM to Toni Childs.  (She's the same one who did "Don't Walk Away," right?)

man, another cut that sounds NTM, but i will give  Toni Childs's Walk and Talk Like Angels a BOS.  really beautiful, although her voice can have that "got a piece of hamburger stuck in my throat quality" to it, which you can hear sometimes w Madonna and always w Molly Hatchet's vocalist.

I can't tell you.  it's pleasantly surprising when I listen to sets where half the songs/artists seem from out of nowhere.  I've heard of Toni Childs, but I can't give you details in any direction.

after a series of election clips (including Lloyd Bentsen ripping Dan Qualye a new one) we get U2's Angel In Harlem.   Bono is really hitting his stride w this.

That one was a frequent flier with Ginger, and Rob has played it a buncha times too.  Ms Chapman thinks she's gonna go from the shelter to the suburbs in no time flat. Not with that hair, babe.

Susan Sarandon can sound a little like Pee Wee Herman without too much effort.

Better than "American Dream," which was the one serviced to radio and MTV.
