Annalisa talked abut this when she signed off yesterday afternoon. The idea being basically film sledgehammers, e.g. "In Your Eyes" from Say Anything.
-
If you've ever seen Testament, the nuclear war flick from '83, you know that the Beatles' "All My Loving" is used in a way that made me cry buckets of tears, one of the few movies that has ever had that effect on me. A sledgehammer indeed.
-
OK, let's get Pulp Fiction outta the way early...

Had the same effect on me, and many movie-goers I think. One of the most powerful films of the 80s, and it's barely remembered.

BOS So Far
If that's a Dirty Dancing reference, I sure as hell hope Annalisa isn't lurking right now to find last minute ideas.
-
BOS for Garden State and the Shins!
-
ooooo-ooo-ooo ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo
BOS the Shins
If Natalie Portman tells me that this song will change my life, I believe her.

I was trying to stay in the movie genre, and also identify Dick Dale for those that weren't here at the beginning. No special affection for DD

If AL plays "I've Had The Time of My Life", I'll give her MAJOR props for ballsiness.
but instead we get the entirely predictable Pretty in Pink sndtk.

The brat pack is heard from!
Another Morey-esque pick, along with the Cat Stevens/Harold and Maude track.
-
Poor Ducky :'(
indeed -- not only that, he got stuck on a horrible sitcom!
-
Poor Ducky :'(
Anyone ever seen the alternate ending where Ducky gets the girl? I know it's on the DVD Bonus Features, but I haven't seen it myself.
-
oh man, good set so far now that I see what I missed: Elton, Bee Gees... can't hang too long, but another HM to OMD
might have to catch the replay this weekend.
-
The brat pack is heard from!
might wanna switch that 16Cs graphic to P-in-P...

Proxy BOS of Alicat, "To Sir, With Love"
-
VHM creepy Donnie Darko.
-
BOS #3 "Mad World" from Donnie Darko.
ETA: if they'd had the budget, they'd have paid TFF for the rights to use the original, but this worked out rather serendipitously for all concerned I think.
-
I peaked at the upcoming song, brace yourselves...

Do you mean to say that this version (Gary Joules) was created for the movie? Interesting.
-
OMFG! Katrina becomes AL's first Katrina!!!! (played twice in 2 weeks, no less)
-
I peaked at the upcoming song, brace yourselves...
You're peaking already? You're way ahead of me.
But aren't there other choices for High Fidelity? Shirley, there are.
-

My special monday morning tape! Ha, I love it. BOS Katrina and Annalisa, whose got one hell of a sense of humor. And obviously knows who we are!
-
sorry, but I get a certain perverse pleasure when AL plays Katrina, as I can imagine many of the 10@10ers writhing in critical agony!

BOS3 Tequila!

Oh, I think she was intentionally poking fun directly at us. And I feel fine.

Just wondering about how to list things. KFOG lists Misirlou as Dick Dale, and I always thought it was Dick Dale and the Del Tones. Here's the IMDB data:
"Misirlou"
Written by Fred Wise, Milton Leeds, S.K. Russell, Nicholas Roubanis
Performed by Dick Dale and the Del Tones (as Dick Dale & His Del-Tones)
There's probably no other listings that would create confusion, right? Has Dave ever played Dale's "Ghost Riders in the Sky?"
-
Can't help but notice that Katrina & The Waves find their way into yet another concept countdown. I'm surprised they weren't included in the Santana 10@10.
BOS to Gary Jules, just because I can.

Bwahahaha! Good point -- "most appearances in theme sets" is something worth noting if they really deserve the award.
-
I'll predict right now that we'll hear Hall & Oates' "You Make My Dreams" in a future Movie Monday set, with a clip from 500 Days of Summer. Bet on it.

mike, your dream just came true ... in LA, that is. Their set for today (8/3) seemed to be a movie themed set:
8/3 - 1991
Born to Be Wild - Steppenwolf
Pretty in Pink - Psychedelic Furs
Old Time R&R - Bob Seger
New Slang - The Shins
You Make My Dreams - Hall & Oats
Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss - U2
The End - Doors
In Your Eyes - Gabriel
Mrs. Robinson - Simon and Garfunkel
Eye of the Tiger - Survivor
