now, the "rotation" would indicate either something '60s (the longed-for '64?) or another theme set. Or maybe AL will plug in the missing '72.
we have yet to hit:
1972
1983
1986
1988
1996
1998
ETA: AL goes for her first 2nd-time-around year, and it's '66. Get yer kicks!
-
Webster just said "a special 10@10, Friday-style" but that could mean anything and nothing.
-
? And Mysterians (sp?)
-
AL's first repeat year!! BOS ? & the Ms
-
Very perceptive on the subject there, Mike--how'dja know?!? :D
And this would be the first year AL has repeated in her tenure as 10@10-meister.
-
BOS for Cool Jerk. Can't remember who this is though.
"Now let that guitar fall in..."
-

As I noted in the Peak thread earlier, the '60s are back, 10@10-wise. radio rediscovers boomers ('cause we're the only ones who listen to radio heavily, I guess -- deep down inside, they know we're COOL!).
BOS2 "Cool Jerk". Ah,ya COOKIN' baby -- ya SSSSMOKIN'!!
-
HM for the terrible recorder solo in Wild Thing. OK, not an HM. Maybe a DM.
-
Reg Presley, I think i LOVE you! BOS3 the underrated Troggs -- their underheard follow-ups are well worth tracking down.
This makes the 2nd of Little Steven's "most underappreciated bands ever" to appear today -- Rob played the Pretty Things in his '65 extravaganza earlier.
-
Ok, she's your baby -- no one's disputing that. But who are YOU?
-
Very garage-centric set today, but I guess that was '66 in a nutshell. So who's this doing She's My Baby? I confess ignorance.

Damn, AL lurves her some garage! "I can only Give you EVERYTHANG" -- BOS4 Them
-
Dang, we're in serious Nuggets territory now. I have no clue what this one is.
-
everybody must get STOOOOOONED. DUUUUUDE!
-
Cue the John Cleese to introduce "Rainy Day Women #12 and 35".
-
"they'll stone you when you are ung-n-able" Er, what?
-
everybody must get STOOOOOONED. DUUUUUDE!
Sounds like a good idea to me. Pass the bong.
-
"they'll stone you when you are ung-n-able" Er, what?
Ya know, I was struck by that just now too. I looked it up..."young and able". So there.
BOS for the Shat.
-
VHM Shatner (the past-tense of "shitner") and the fabulous Star Trek theme by Alexander Courage.
BOS5 Beatles (yay), musicalizing the Tibetan Book of the Dead.
-
BOS, James Tiberius Kirk
-
Uber BOS to my favorite Beatles song!
-
Def. BOS to the Beatles (yay) in their first serious psychedelic foray.
-
Uber BOS to my favorite Beatles song!
It's up there for me too. An amazing production.

Viva Chicano Rock! BOS6 "Black is Black". A riff later ripped off by several disco songs including "I'm on Fire" by 5000 Volts.
Los Bravos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGeFf_rIAVQ
5000 Volts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eye0mXrl_Po

I love these old car ads. Size matters, apparently. 390 cubic inches! 7 liters!
-
Secret Asian Man!!!!!!
the jangly intro riff was pretty effectively ripped off by Tommy Tutone, imho.
-
BOS7 Secret
Asian Agent Man!

Hear, hear!
And another BOS for Johnny Rivers, Secret Asian Man.
-
Three-way secret asian JINX!!
-
And back to the garage for the Standells! BOS, was a Dave standby in the old days.
-
Secret Asian JINX!!!
Funny, I was gonna guess that "She's My baby" song earlier was maybe the Standells, but here they are on the banks of the river Charles.

Gotta figure AL's gonna give a shoutout to the land of her birth now and again--Boston, that's her home.

I emailed Rob Arrow (nee Lipshutz) at the Peak this morning to thank him for doing 1965, and to say I hope it's a trend, as all the versions of 10@10 seem to be rediscovering pre-'68 years after ignoring them for a while. He just replied and said he lived in Berkeley in 1985 and remembered Dave doing "Fifties Friday"!

Def. BOS to the Beatles (yay) in their first serious psychedelic foray.
TANC: I'm listening to a "Funky 16 Corners" podcast of soul/jazz Beatle covers, and here's The Don Randi Trio (?) doing a jazzy version of "Tomo'w Never Knows"

I was in the car for this, and really enjoyed it. Hard to say which BOS; I also thought TNK. 1966 really seems like the pivotal year, or at least the prequel to the big change. In this set Dylan and The Beatles seem to represent the meatball (http://ggould.com/blogstuff/images/meatball.pdf) point in things.

the best thing about 1966 getting repeated already is not just that Dave only did '66 thrice in 5 years, but that this argues for an even distribution of setlists, and not the bell curve distribution of Dave's tenure.

It's clear that's what AL has been doing so far: one from each decade (plus a theme set) every week. Given that there's no PD at KFOG, I wonder if that's just her idea or if someone higher up said OK. Your typical radio "suits" would tear their hair out over the non-focus-group-approved stuff she's been giving us! Long may she wave.
