Title: The Drive, 7/20/09: One Hit Wonders
Post by: RGMike on July 20, 2009, 07:50:40 AM
an odd choice, on Moonday Monday -- I expected Bob to either do Moon tunes or a Carlos' B-day set.  But His theme sets have been good recently, so here's hoping for some good stuff.

BOS1 Marmalade!  They weren't OHWs in the UK, but here's their only US biggie.

BOS1 to the Marmalade's "Reflections of My Life."  Their follow-up "Rainbow" would criminally make it only to #50.

And as Mike alludes, they were much bigger in the UK, where their cover of "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" was a #1.

I think "Ob-la-Di" would've suited Dexy's perfectly.

Mr Greenbaum forms the Massachusetts chapter of Jews for Jesus.

If only "Canned Ham" had made him a 2-hit wonder.

quite a one-two punch, actually: a Jew singing about Jesus AND ham!

I will ALWAYS confuse Saga's "On the Loose" with Loverboy's "Turn Me Loose". Crappy Canadians all sound alike.

"Black Betty" had a child -- damn thing gone wild!

These guys realy should have gotten more recognition, I have a bunch of their stuff & it's all good.

btw, that flip side, "Oh Mommy" is hysterical.

I like to wear my hair lo-o-ong
how can there be anything wro-o-ong
when you already 'ccused me twice
of looking like Jesus Christ?
Halelujah!
