Post by: RGMike on July 11, 2009, 06:35:09 PM
Speaking of '78, AL played 2 songs from this weekend's 7/15/78 AT40 chart in her last 2 sets: "King Tut" and "Still the Same".

did she announce 1978?

she said "the year of Animal House and Grease".

If she can avoid "Thunder Island" and "Dreadlock Holiday" I'll be ecstatic.

Given the choices she's made in nearly every other year she's done, I expect that won't be a problem. I'm guessing we'll hear a few punk and New Wave selections that Dave didn't go for.

Mr. Blue Sky has only 5 appearances in the DB. Not a katrina in my book.

Also, I believe the songs in question were Dreadlock Holiday and Thunder Island. Period.

let me rephrase my statement: replace "katrinas" with "the overplayed" ;)  "Mr Blue Sky" has been in more commercials and movie trailers than any song in recent memory.

BOS2 EC.  "have you been a good boy, never played with your toy?"

Surprisingly, only three times. Also was tune #9 twice and #8 twice. So it def. liked to appear toward the end of the set.

Man, that Animal House clip sounded like it was recorded with a handheld mic and a Realistic cassette recorder.

BOS of the MONTH! Teenage Kicks!!! Rest in Peace, John Peel!

I may have mentioned this before, but does anyone have the single remix of this?  It has Allman Bros style guitar licks, and was really hot.  I only heard it on AM radio at the time.

Funny I was just thinking that it's rather Boston-like (as was the fashion) but yeah, you can hear the ABB gee-tars.

I am in shock: The Police have appeared only once before in a '78 set--Can't Stand Losing You about 3 1/2 years ago.

(1979 is another matter, and 1980 is off the chart.)
