Red Rockers alert!
ETA: I mean, if Dave starts with The Call, Red Rockers can't be far behind.
-
Margerine doesn't melt all that well, really. But, if we must have an 80s set- it may as well be one of my fave 80s years.
Nice try at trying to go with Renee to the Star Wars screening, Mshray!
HM The Call.

REAL margarine melts. It's that low-fat stuff that turns all gummy-gooey.

That wasn't me. That was an impossible task to start with, & even if I'd won somehow I could only call you & let you go for me.
So I didn't call.

I wonder if Dave was concsiously trying to make up for the fact that "I Still Believe" had just been overlooked on the A-Z playlist in the 9:00 hour?
-
That wasn't me.
Oh. Well, it sounded like you. Or the Ides of March.
Heh.
Yeah- Star Wars just ain't as much fun anymore. And it's not because I'm old. Becuase I still like plenty of crap that I liked as a kid.
Hmm. Maybe if Queen Amadala put on a pink wig and did a table-dance....

I could have sworn I saw a video for "New Frontier" (an animated Brubeck-jazz-type motif) in 1981. Revisionist memory, I s'pose.
-
I just came across something interesting: http://www.steelydandictionary.com/
Sample entry:
Ambush - "She's wearing Ambush and a French twist / She's got us wild and she can tell." - New Frontier
A brand of women's perfume. Launched by the French perfume company Dana in 1955, Ambush is a sharp, oriental, woody fragrance with a blend of lavender, jasmine, oakmoss, sandalwood and patchouli. Still available, though the formulation has apparently changed in recent years.

Yuck, I've heard this song on 10@10 before but it never grated on me like it does today. This isn't Thomas Dolby, is it?

Yes it is.
And yes, you saw a video for "New Frontier" back in the day. And it did feature animation.
-
"Girl, U got an ass like I never seen..."
VHM Prince for getting that line on the radio in '83.
-
I remember the Steely Dan "New Frontier" video- animation & all.
Oh, Christ- fecking Motels.
There's , like a majillion more songs from 1983 that we could be listening to here today...
It's the Dark Side- I'm tellin' ya.

Fuck it all. My computer's crashed twice in the past 15 minutes: it seems that the Mozilla Firefox web browser isn't fully compatible with the Windows 98 OS, and so a handful of the websites I frequent crash me as soon as a mouse-over drop-down menu is encountered. Let me just say here for the record that I FUCKING RESENT THE CONCEPT OF PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE. Don't fucking force me to buy a new computer every two years just because you programming fuckers can't be bothered with backwards compatibility. This is a big part of why there's very little movement possible under American capitalism: those who start at the bottom are forever forced to buy new tools from those with the economic luxury of first-mover adaptation.
Fuck, do I hate this game sometimes.

silver lining: you're missing Men At Work. :D

Dang, this set's rather pissing me off.

HM to "Million Miles" for sentimental reasons. But, like I said, this et's not doing much for me 'cept making me wish I had MY '83 compilation discs here at work...

And "head full of Zombie" means "stoned", man.
And Vegemite sounds hideous.
-
"and my speech is slurred"?! Dude, maybe you're having a stroke!
-
BOS Tubes, cuz the rest of this set has been a katrina-fest (not like this isn't but I'm just sayin'...)
VHM Marshall Crenshaw

I'll second that. Never been too cunning, I'm no linguist.

as does this set for the most part. Katrina City.

Well, I have to disagree that this was a good set.
My favorite was New Frontier. Ah well, to each his/her own.

Ya mean ya like it? Or it wasn't good? (Never mind - I know if Donald Fagen is in it, it's OK by you - and me  )

Well, I have to disagree that this was a good set.
I think the problem I'm having with the set is that these are songs that seem to be in EVERY '83 set is all. It's not so much I think the songs suck (although I can live the rest of my life w/o hearing "Land Down Under" having heard it So. Much.)

Sorry you're right I wasn't too clear... :)
I meant that I disagreed with Dave M (most of the time the world's best DJ) that this was a good set.
-
Oooooh. I misunderstood ya, too- yessongs.
Oh! And I forgot to vote Kajagoogoo for Best Hair of Set.
-
By the way, I'm really enjoying KFOG A-Z. It's *so* nice to tune in and have a really good chance of hearing good songs!!
One thing I don't get though, is how can most of these songs be in the "KFOG library" but I *never* hear them ... except on A-Z ??!!**?!?!
KFOG has good music... they just don't play it enough!!
-
KFOG has good music... they just don't play it enough!!
And the stuff they do play gets played so much one gets sick of it quickly.
Like, I don't WANT to catch your disease, stupid Ben Lee. Why'd you ruin a nice melody & some catchy lyrics by making the chorus: "Catch my disease"?! EWWW!
Soryy... I'm "old" that way....

I agree, a catchy tune but I don't like the chorus either.... I'm old that way too. 8)

Yeah! Stupid kids and their disease songs! Back in mY day- people wrote songs about positive things like 'turning japanese' or 'she-boppin' or 'little red corvettes' or 'today's Tom Sawyer's'- not songs about illnesses!
You kids get offa my lawn.
sssssssaaAAAAALLLLEESSS-MEN!
OK. I'll stop.

and that's the way Beej likes it
that's the way Beej likes it..."

So, pleeeeeeeaaaaase
Just call me "Beeeeeej"...
Like I said- great, catchy lil tune. Stupid, stupid title & chorus. Oh, wait. Mebbe that's the point or something. But, still- what's the deal, Ben Lee?
