at least that's what the clue on AL's promo ("Hurricane Andrew blew in -- and so did Bill Clinton") seems to promise.

I thought Clinton was blown in..? ::)

Monicagate was a few years later. Can't wait 'til AL gets to that!

So it's a 70s set on Friday? Then it's most likely to be '72, '73 or '78. I like those odds.
Meh to Suzanne Vega. Not exactly a quintessential TOTHK.
-
has anyone yet identified that "I'm gonna get in this time machine... and mess with people's minds" clip? I googled and got nuthin'. And the "bleep-ometer" thing is getting annoying.
But BOS Ms. Vega, def a KFOG playlist item in '92.

got that right, but I dig the song. Nowhere to go but up(beat).

Gettin' there: Reconstituted THeads, Lifetime Piling Up. Proxy of Shray, iirc.

When AL first took over the reins, they were plugging a contest to get listeners to send in demos of themselves announcing the year. They seemed to have dropped that idea pretty fast. Guessing either they got no responses, or the ones they got sucked ass.
-
not much into late THeads, but any rabid bike rider like David Byrne gets some love. :)
-
She's definitely hitting the Dave notes so far, with Dada especially. Though I do like this one.

LOL! I was thinking the exact same thing!
AL pisses off President George with "Dizz Trina Land"
-
Now THIS is more like it--the dulcet tones of Bob Mould and Sugar, If I Can't Change Your Mind.
Remember seeing these guys just tear it up at the Warfield sometime around 92 (with Throwing Muses opening), then beat it over to the Bottom of the Hill for a late Young Fresh Fellows show. Ah, those were the days.

I was thinking of doing it. I even tried to get a good mic from work but my laptop wouldn't power it properly. I took it as a sign and said "forget it."

BOS2 -- and an openly gay artist to boot.
OMG -- that Irish guy covering LL Cool J!
-
So who's this Irish-sounding guy rapping? Stereo MCs maybe?
-
BOS for "The Contest", the funniest thing I've ever seen on TV.
-
So who's this Irish-sounding guy rapping? Stereo MCs maybe?
Sounds like Luka Bloom.
ETA: Google confirms this. It's called "I Need Love". I don't like him.
-

Luka Bloom -- an Acoustic Sunrise fave. (he also does that bicycle song "Acoustic Motorbike")

I think you may have nailed it, DF.

because he's Irish? or because he's whitefacing LL Cool J?
-
BOS U2.
-
it's an Irish twin-spin! "On your knees, boy!"

Well, I've never heard this tune before, but it's kinda painful to listen to, lyrically. I've heard him on RadioParadise where he has another song with really dumb lyrics, though I don't remember what it was. I generally switch the station when he comes on.

Was always amused by the fact that two of the three members of Husker Du were gay, but the one who most fit the stereotype of what a gay guy would look like was the one who was straight (Greg Norton):

The LL Cool J version was a big hit in '87. The rhymes are a bit... simple. But LL's delivery makes it sexy, whereas Bloom just sounds dorky.

Wow, Sinead's big statement against that Catholic church on live TV. That caused a little bit of a stir, no?
-
cue sound of crickets after Sinead goes all rippy on the pope pic. I read Lorne Michaels instructed the stage mgrs NOT to light the "Applause" sign when she did this.
-
BOS3 Sinead tearing up her pic of the pope. There's a great graffiti all over the Mission that says "The Pope is Poop". Heh.
hey! let's pretend that we're dead! I can't decide if this song is really great or really stupid.
-
I'm going to be the voice of divergence about that Luka Bloom song. I have not heard it before either, but it was nice and relaxing and did elicit that fuzzy feeling inside, so BOS2 to that. (The first BOS being Bob Mould)

I've seen that graffiti on the sidewalk and made sure to step around it.
Why was Sinead O'C PO'd at the pope? I mean, there are any number of reasons to choose, but what was happening at the time? Guess I should do some research, heh heh.

BOS4 Cracker!

-
BOS4 Cracker!
hells yeah!
-
but wait, there's more! BOS Morphine...!
-
BOS2 to The Player. Altman at his peak--or one of them, anyway.
-
Now if you want a song that gives you that fuzzy feeling inside, you want Morphine. BOS.
-
Hmm...Morphine not bad, but I still like the Luka Bloom one better. I'll VHM Morphine tho.
Blah @ Neil Young. But, at least this is one of his less annoying ones.
-

I've lost count, but Neil should be tune #10, no?

The laundry-list of "things to be pissed at the Pope about" would circle the earth. Do NOT get me started.
-
wow, lots of moldy sugary fuzzy narcoticky feelings in this set. I like this Neil Young tune, thought is sounds like he could have written it in 1971. Saw him do this at the Bridge School Benefit in 2003...

Lol. I remember that one. I hit the snooze, rolled over and went back to bed. :D

VHM to the word "bastages" (for bastards) that AL just used in the back-announce. I use that one a lot, too.

Count me in for "really stupid." I haven't heard this since it was a college radio hit, and I hated it then. Now I must add it - and the even worse "Andre" - to my Worst of All Time list. Curse thee, L7.
-
Ah, that was nice (the rerun). No way man, BOS to Luka Bloom, although I'm digging this Morphine groove. I think whoever said it was right, I think Rosalie has played the Bloom track on Acoustic Sunrise/Sunset.
Oh yeah, yawn to Neil from me too. Sorry. Oh, but I do like the instrumentation.
As I was listening Luka Bloom, I kept thinking the line from Mae Moore's "Bohemia", "Closer than I've ever been" would come in between his verses. In fact, I was singing it for my wife, and she said it fit, but she hadn't heard it before.
It just happened to match up nicely with his delivery. Hrm... I may have to finally learn how to make a mash-up...
