Just got back in time for the end of US Blooze. Is Annalisa doing this one live, or does it appear to be a rerun?

seems live as songs are being displayed on 'just played' but she didn't answer phone.

you could play any number of John Mellencamp songs in this set.  Of course, I always think of financing a Chevy Truck when I hear this one.

I was wondering who this was. Makes sense, since they already played one song by Paul Simon. The player seems to be keeping track of every song, so I'm wondering if this set wasn't assembled earlier with voicetracked intro and backsell, and is being played via automation. Also, I've heard the "KFOG's Ten at Ten" bumper at least twice now in the four songs I've heard.

No, it's not a rerun, but it appears to have been pre-recorded (AL did the morning show, I think).

It's also the first time we've gotten 2 theme sets in a row since I-can't-remember-when.  BOS to the Eva Cassidy (also NTM) and BOS2 and proxy-of-Gaz "Volunteers". Nicely done.

Safe bet. I just hope they don't play Monday's set first. But with my luck they will.

I forgot the possible confusion. My band is doing some 'alternative patriotic songs' tomorrow at our gig!  I figured we'd do a big closer of this song.

must be hard to craft a good 10at10 w sound clips and everything.  Assembling this pre-recorded music only set was prob a piece of cake for AL.  Plus, not having to pick sound clips meant she wouldn't delve too much into hokiness by choosing rah rah stuff, OR have to give equal time to the downside of the American experiment in democracy by throwing in some clips where we wern't at our best (for instance , we heard some in a 1970 a while back when they played clips of the Kent State massacre).

OTOH she coulda gone with comedy (David Frye, SNL, etc). Earlier KPIG played a chunk of Stan Freberg presents: The United States of America, which is worth seeking out if you've never heard it. Hilarious stuff.

Not the Bonus, exactly, but now we're getting Steve Miller "Livin in the USA". Somebody gimme a CHEEZEburger!

OK kids, I'm off to spend the afternoon with Johnny Depp (just in time, too: AL's playing Jason Mrazzzzzzzzzzzzzzz).

Funny.  Yesterday Fresh Air replayed Teri Gross's interview with John Mellencamp from March 2009.  She actually asked him about his "partnership" with Chevy.  He said he obviously didn't start out writing songs intending them to be used for commercials, but he said that friends were telling him that this was how things were done these days.  (Trend of all kinds of new music being "broken" by their use in commercials and TV shows.)

He also joked that Chevrolet was a better record company than Columbia.  (They keep their word.);-}
