All Neil, a 10-way tie in advance.
Neil Young 10@10 Thursday Neil Young's Archives Volume 1 hit stores yesterday, and Annalisa's celebrating with an all-Neil 10@10 set tomorrow at 10am and 10pm. As an added bonus, we're giving one lucky email Foghead the Blu-ray set and a Samsung Blu-ray player. Enter here .
Thanks, Fogheads, for your overwhelming support of the new 10@10. Help us out by lending your voice to the show. Record the line below - or some variation - and send an mp3 to fogheadvoices@kfog.com .
"From KFOG - It's 10@10, with 10 great songs from 1 great year! Now, here's your musical time-travel guide - Annalisa!"

I'd love it if AL bookends the set with the orig and "techno" versions of "Mr Soul."
But that annoyingly unctious announcer guy's gotta go. Hope they pick their "lucky Foghead" soon

BOS1 "the Loner", the keeper of the key to the locks.
-
BOS2 "Sugar Mountain", this live version was the B-side of some 45 or other, I remember playing it on the jukebox of an Italian restaurant in my old 'hood in Queens when my mom and I would have dinner there.
Would really love to hear "Needle & the Damage Done" today.

Sugar Mountain sounding mighty fine, but I'm holding out for "Like a Hurricane" or, if AL wants to really impress, "The Losing End" from Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. Hell, even the title track would kick ass.

And there it is -- BOS, LAH.

Are any of you submitting MP3s for the contest? If I had a microphone, I would.

Here's your Hurricane. Losing End would be pretty great. I'm holding out for Broken Arrow, or dare I hope for Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing?

ah, but have you ever heard the Carpenters' version? Quite the WTF:

BOS3 "Hurricane", BTW
-
I want this set to close with "When You Dance, I Can Really Love."

I have the same issue.

I think I might try it. Although I don't have good mic either.

BOS4 "Comes a Time". It's a wonder tall trees ain't layin' down...
-
I want this set to close with "When You Dance, I Can Really Love."
Who knew AL took requests on the fly?!

Nice call. Anyone been counting? How many songs in is this?
ETA: Just did a quick count--I think it's 8 or 9. So we should get at least one more.
-
BOS5 "I Am a Child" -- boy, could Rufus Wainwright give that a reading fraught with gay meaning.
You are a man
You understand
You pick me up
And then lay me down again
!!!
-
BOS6 "WYD, ICRL"
-
BOS6 "WYD, ICRL"
This is my biggest BOS, although I agreed with Alicat up front that it would be a 10-way tie.

I love Neil, but I bailed after Sugar Mountain. btw, the sound was doing 83-84? I buffered that stream and might listen later.
-
Going to have to go with the 10-way tie.
Digging Long May You Run, although this sounds more like a live version (unplugged?) than the one we're used to off the Stills-Young album of the same name.
-
I'm guessing "Long May You Run" must be the closer? Loverly. And if AL did an all-Neil set w/out "Heart of Gold", then MAJOR kudos.
-

The Sound must be doing '85, sorry to have missed John Parr's "Naughty, Naughty". But I've stayed here the whole time.

TANC: Was streaming Pandora yesterday, and heard Johnny Cash's cover of "Heart of Gold." I love JC, but really wasn't a very good version. Not appropriately plaintive, ala Neil.
-
Woo Hoo!! Closing with one of the toughest songs in the Rock pantheon!
-
Johnny Rotten! Rotten Johnny! AL takes us out in a fuzz-toned haze, hey hey. Here's yer "godfather of grunge", all right
-
BOS 10, hey hey...
out of the blue
into the black

while you're waiting for the bonus, go back and check out that Carpenters version of "Clancy" if you've never heard it.

Mark, if you're asking for reviews of Spamalot, here's mine:
I haven't (yet) seen the S.F. version, but I saw it in NYC a year or two ago. Best Musical I've Ever Seen. It's great even if you don't love Monty Python (although I do). Hope this helps...

I was expecting OMGWTFLOL but instead I got OMG THIS IS FANTASTIC!!!!!
Thanks!

This is my biggest BOS, although I agreed with Alicat up front that it would be a 10-way tie.
my biggest BOS, too. although hurricane, comes a time, I am a child, sugar mountain are all great. 10 way tie!
the riff of in WYD, ICRL reminds me of the Loner a little.

No, I posted a YouTube link earlier in this thread.

And the newest song of the bunch was recorded in 78 and released in 79: Hey Hey My My. 'Zat say anything about Neil's more recent output? Although I would concede he did record some worthy material in the 80s and early 90s. Kind of surprised Rockin' In the Free World didn't turn up in there.

Well, I have *now.* And yeah, major WTF. Kinda cheesy at times, but it works for them.
Almost as impressive was the accompanying photo montage. Amazing array of photos. Very few of them of creepy anorexic period Karen.

how about if she had played The Old Laughing Lady?

AL mentioned in the backsell that she went with earlier Neil partly because the new box set also skews to the early years (nothing past '72 or '73). Still, the point is taken -- the early stuff is classic in the best sense of the word, while later stuff is often interesting and excellent, it's not quite to the same level of greatness.
