Renee spilled the beans earlier. And continuing the corporate spin, Greg said, "Gee, even dave didn't visit '66 very often!" Yeah Greg -- maybe because management wouldn't LET him!

Yeah, well, if Annalisa gets to do '66 more often than once a year, I'll be amazed.
-
I'll give Annalisa the benefit of the doubt and offer a pre-emptive 10-way BOS tie. Hard to go really wrong in '66.

AL also pre-recorded a promo spot for this 66 set, just mentioning the year. I heard itthis morning.

I hope the Foghead winner of the "announcer search" is less abnoxious than the guy they're currently using . Yikes, is he ever over-the-top.
Instant BOS to whateverthehell this TOTHK is -- the Monks?
Alright, my name's Gary.
Let's go, it's beat time, it's hop time, it's monk time now!
You know we don't like the army.
What army?
Who cares what army?
Why do you kill all those kids over there in Vietnam?
Mad Viet Cong.
My brother died in Vietnam!
James Bond, who was he?
Stop it, stop it, I don't like it!
It's too loud for my ears.
Pussy galore's comin' down and we like it.
We don't like the atomic bomb.
Stop it, stop it, I don't like it . . . stop it!
What's your meaning Larry?
Ahh, you think like I think!
You're a monk, I'm a monk, we're all monks!
Dave, Larry, Eddie, Roger, everybody, let's go!
It's beat time, it's hop time, it's monk time now!
-
I'm going to have to defer to Mike and the rest of y'all on this. I don't recall ever hearing whatever the TOTHK is before. But I like it.
-
any song that mentions "Pussy Galore" is gonna get BOS.
Go Annalisa! (did I just say that?)
-
ah yes, the warbly tremolo signature sound of Roky Erickson and the The 13th Floor Elevators!
another BOS
-
Instant BOS to whateverthehell this TOTHK is -- the Monks?
You may indeed be right. Dave would be proud. May have to go with Gaz on this--10-way tie.
-
BOS2 13th Floor Elevators! Roky rules!
-

Go Annalisa! (did I just say that?)
something about Annalisa and Pussy Galore in the same post is making me ROTFL.
BOS3 Bewitched -- Annalisa's really doing her homework.
And of course a BOS4 the BBs -- TANC, I referenced "Wouldn't it Be Nice" over the weekend when I heard the 'berries "Lets Pretend".
-
BOS5 -- oh hell 10-way tie. "I look all white but my dad was black!"
-
This set is rocking pretty well--BOS4 Substitute, the Who's perennial opener.
Shocked that, as much as a Who fan as Dave was, this never appeared in the DB. He must have played in a set somewhere back in time though.
-
But Mama! It's SMOKEY!! Goin' to a Go-Go!
-
I was wondering, so I checked Wiki: Cassius Clay changed his name to Muhammad Ali in 64

He used to play their "Shakin' All Over" from Live at Leeds a lot.
BOS of BOSes to Love, "My Little Red Book"!
-
But Mama! It's SMOKEY!! Goin' to a Go-Go!
I thought I was the only one who remembered those commercials! (I think it's "but DAD..." actually)
Woo Hoo! Love puts Burt Bacharach thru some (forever) changes.
-
who doesn't love Love?

-
A tip o' the hat to Burt--Little Red Book. Yay for LOVE!
-
mmmmm.... spaghetti (western).
ETA: wow, we're getting the whole theme -- the orig sndtk version, not the "hit" from 2 years later.
-
mmmmm.... spaghetti (western).
Wow, this isn't just a clip--she's really playin' the whole thing. Nice.
-
Annalisa's had enuf of pussy galore -- she now realizes "It's a Man's World".
-
Perhaps just a bit of a nudge to Annalisa's new role: This *is* a man's world, but it wouldn't be nothin' without a woman or a girl.
-

LOL

Aside: Just notice that Gaz just crossed 12000 posts, Mike is one away from 42000, and Tink is just about at 1900. And I'm about 35 short of 9000.
-
OMFG, "Rain", one of my fave lesser-heard Beatle tunes.
AL has made me a believer -- this is one fantabulous set (and I'd like to officially designate "AL" as the abbrev for "Annalisa" from here on in).
-

whoa! Mike's next one better be really special! ;)
oops, there it was, and he chose to highlight AL. sigh. ok, I'll will def use "AL" -- and I do dig her musical taste, if only she had a giggle suppressor filter there in the studio.
-
And the BOSes just keep on coming: It's the Beatles (yay!), and one of their more psychedelic offerings.
(Sodden thought: will they continue the tradition of misspelling "yay" after Beatles in the setlists?)
-
Wow, I don't know that Beatle's track at all, but the bass blew my ears out (in a good way).
-
Also... Boots!
-
are ya ready, boots?

BOS Nancy! Great set all around. Yay AL.

Misspelling? I don't get it. A sodden thought indeed.

wha wha WHA..?!
oh man, go seek it out. one of John's best.

Here's that Ladybird!
Back in '98, I went with my friends Niel Armstrong (yup, that's his name), Elise and Genene to the Mint for karaoke. Elise and Genene weren't accustomed to getting drunk drunk, so they were sloppy when they got up on stage to sing this song. Genene suddenly blurted out, "One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over YOU, NIEL ARMSTRONG!!!"
The rest of the crowd went suddenly silent, wondering what her beef was with an astronaut.
I fell out of my chair laughing.
-
Ooh, TimeWarp for the aforementioned "bed".

the KFOG internet jockeys consistently misspell "yay" (as in "beatles yay") as "yeah" in the set-list postings.

Remember how Dave almost never talked about the Beatles without saying "yay" after?
Look at the setlists on the KFOG page. Every time they list a Beatles song, the word that follows it is spelled "yeah."
-
Extra points to AL for pronouncing Roky Erikson's name correctly.
-
Ok, the "bed" during the rundown was the Time Warp instrumental loop. Not as bad this time around.

But the new replacement Foghead-announcer cannot come too soon. That screaming guy is WAY annoying.

Ahh, I didn't realize it was "yeah" there. That's certainly a different word. And fer sure I remember Dave and the "yay". He told the story on his blog a while back. I don't remember it exactly, but I'm pretty sure alcohol and staying up late playing the Beatles were both involved. It might even not have been Dave saying it, but a friend of his. I'll have to check it out again.

Hilarious! and nice nod to Ladybird which I heard yesterday and mentioned in the "Other Internet Radio" thread.

I'm severely deficient in a lot of rock history.

But you know about Katy Perry. ;)
BTW, I listened to her "I Kissed a Girl", and I thought it sucked. AND it was essentially the same story, wordwise, with worser [sic] music.

Instant BOS to whateverthehell this TOTHK is -- the Monks?
BOS Infinity to The Monks!
I got turned onto the Monks about 10 yrs ago by a coworker at the time. I have this CD & it is really groundbreaking stuff. I've come to love it, and thus was ASTONISHED to hear AL lead off with it. As I was driving I heard the intro, and thought, "Wow, whoever this is sounds a lot like the Monks."
In the backsell Annalisa mentioned that The Monks got 1 BOS vote, and that was from me. I called & told her it was probably BOS for the whole year in my book.
and of coures it's been nearly 3 yrs since Dave went to 1966, and there're only 3 sets in the Db.
-
BTW, AL let slip during her BOS recap that Thurs will be an all-Neil Young set (something about his archives being released on CD that day).

what's the BOS?
as of 11am or thereabouts, it was the "Good/Bad/Ugly" theme, but unless I misunderstood I think AL said she's going to allow folks to vote until she gets off the air at 4.
