I hope you receive your 10@10 wishes!

They got their props from Dave, is that wish enough?

Ugh! 1987 of all things. Well, ya can't always get etc.
-
I don't think 87 was on anyone's wish list!

Mike wanted a Soul Patrol & he got 1987 instead.
Whaddaya think? Is that wish enough?
"Battleship Chains" makes for an above average TotHC, though.

Sorry I'm late. My punishment is listening to Wang Chung.

Happy Birthday RGMike & Lightnin' Rod!

It's actually worse than that. You'll be forced to Wang Chung tonight too.
-
HM to Tammy Faye, "We're Blessed." Fun to watch this house divided.

Thanks Beej -- that cake matches Tammy Faye's mascara!

WeareBLESSED-WeareBLESSED-WeareBLESSED-WeareBLESSED-WeareBLE-EE-EEESED!

My birthday wish for Mike is that we could hear ABC "When Smokey Sings", Swing Out Sister "Breakout" or T'Pau "Heart & Soul".
My nightmare scenario is that we hear Europe "The Final Countdown".

and this set isn't helping cheer me up!

Well this Squeeze song oughta help a little, such a catchy refrain:

seeifitcanswim backuptotheshore.

andtheblindsaredown.
-
The inevitable Crowded House (at least it wasn't "Don't Dream...") followed by equally inevitable Squeeze. Guess Aretha & George "I Knew You Were Waiting" is completely out of the question.

old fart alert: Squeeze was always too cute for me.

This song sounds pretty good now, but I remember being disappointed at the time. I thought it wasn't up to Squeeze's standards. I still think that, but it does have a good sound. I felt the same way (except even more so) about George Harrison's "I Got My Mind Set On You", which came out a few years later. But even that one sounds pretty good these days.

Damn, hard to be me at home. It's me.
-
the good old days before he fired guitarist Jimmy Willsey (sp?)
-
In light of diminshed expectations, BOS to Bourgeois Tagg's "I Don't Mind at All." This song would never get on radio now.
-
BOS Bourgeois Tagg, "I Don't Mind At All". Lovely, Beatle-esque Todd Rundgren production.

I was digging the guitar work, but that wasn't Chris?

I mean "which came out at the same time".

Whoops, Dave faked out by false ending!

And barely did then, tho' it got to #38. (It's great to post from home and have Whitburn in hand.)
-
BOS to Bourgeois Tagg, my Sacto homies.
Sorry, haven't had a chance to participate in today's discourse, but I wish Mike and Rod both very happy birthdays, wherever they are. (Well, I know where Mike is.)
Ouch--that step on the "tagg" end of I Don't Mind at All was painful. At least Dave apologized.
-
HM to "Bullet the Blue Sky" because Bono has a thing for the bullet/sky lyric/visual...
(he mentions bullets & the sky in the now-overplayed 'Vertigo' song if I'm not mistaken).
One Hundred! 2 Hundred!
-
Hmmm... I'm still waiting for ONE song that I like.
If this song had been "Where the Streets have No Name" instead of this one, that would have been it!!

Dave thinks taggs are SOOOO bourgeois.
-
after that Baker/Falwell clip* it would be even better if Dave could play the live version of "Bullet The Blue Sky"
The God I believe in isn't short of cash, mister!
*which is a total Sally, but I'll forgive it because of the line "they had sharp knives".
-
VHM to Finest Worksong.

Rich!!!! Way to go posting appropriately  I like REM's "Finest Work Song". Does it do it for you? First good song?
-
Did everyone (especially Gaz) hear that "A to Z" promo just now -- note that a snippet of "Ride the Tiger" was in there. Anyone remember if that song was actually played in any past "A to Z"s?
Thanks to all for the B-day wishes! I'm off to Chinatown for a bit o' Dim Sum.
-
I was curious about Chris Isaak's "Fade Away", and after checking I think it must be true that this is the most common song title in the Pop/Rock catalog. There are well over 100 different songs with this title in the Allmusic list. And that doesn't include the 148 occurrences of "Not Fade Away".

Not really... :(
I agree it's a good song but I just don't like REM. I find their music catchy but irritating.

Yep, it was song #1217, right between "Rhiannon" & "Riders On The Storm".
Assuming they go at least as long as last year I'll miss 5 days becasue of business travel, which sucks.

Birthday addendum:
Got 2 emails this morning -- first, a KFOG-generated message saying "Happy Birthday, here's your 10@10 Orchestra Leader's baton" (this must be new, never got one before and I've been a registered Foghead forever). And second, a personal email from Dave saying, "sorry, its 1987 today" but promising to play the Barbara Acklin song in a future set.
-

LOL! That's pretty funny.
But, this indicates to me that Dave is a'lurkin like a gerkin here. Hi, Dave!
(Unless you called to castigate him about playing a 1987 set on yer b-day, RGMike!)

See, he likes you! He really likes you!

But the real question is: who are all these pickles that are reading our posts, and why don't they every say anything? :)
-
Is anyone keeping stats to determine if we've got lurkers in this hizzle?

Actually the email was datestamped 4:30 am today so I don't think our comments here entered into it. And I didn't call to complain. I did, however, give him three weeks advance notice, which obviously wasn't enough.
I've given up trying to figure out why Dave honors some requests and not others. But I had a swell day anyhoo -- Dim Sum followed by a double mocha in North Beach, then over to the Embarc for that Enron documentary which was awesome. It lays out the whole sordid story quite clearly, and uses music in a way that can only be described as "Moreyesque".

Yeah, but it seems like time is relative when it comes to the speed of light & computers. Half the time AOL tell me people are emailing me at all kindsa crazy hours when I know damn well they ain't.
Anyhoo, glad you had a gastronomical good time yesterday!
