Since these are listener requests, I'm not going to expect anything too out of the ordinary here, and hope to be surprised.

BTW, the Sound's 10@10 Message Board has censorship software (similar to what KFOG uses on its blog comments) that actually censored a guy who posted "LMAO!" -- I mean, WTF?

lovley AM gold from Elvin Bishop and Mickey.

did you every note Elvin's guitar solo has a sort of flub (bad note)  that he works with by playing it twice?

Play it once, it's a mistake.  Play it twice, it's jazz.

Just noticed that the Sound hasn't added any new setlists to its 10@10 page since last Thursday's Covers set either. Bad form, guys. If ya want to keep your audience engaged, you gotta keep on top of stuff like this.

Surprisingly, Dave has only played this in 1976 sets.  And he's never played Foghat at all (within Db parameters anyway)

ETA: I said I'd've BOS'd this on the WDRV thread, so I guess I have to BOS it here.

Quick, how many Oscar noms did Sounder get?

no one bit, but this actually got nommed for Best Picture, Actor, Actress & Screenplay.  If I'm not mistaken it remains the only film to ever get nominations for Leading Actor & Actress when both were black (Paul Winfield & Cicely Tyson).

actually Laurence Fishburne and Angela Basset were both nommed for What's Love Got to Do With It (tho' it wasn't a Best Pic contender). But in '72 there were 2 black actesses nominated -- Miss Ross for her turn as Billie Holliday was in there too, and I've always thought if she had not gotten a nod and siphoned off votes, Tyson would've won.(10 points if you know who did without looking)

Streisand in Love Story?

Liz and Dick and Britt and Liza!, Jaclyn, Kate & Farrah.

Liza won for Cabaret!, for which Bob Fosse got Best Director over Coppola for The Godfather.  I'd say Fosse's win was not even close to being the Most Undeserving...great film, great direction...but it probably heads the list of Oscars that would change hands if there was an "in hindsight" do-over.
ETA:  Many people might argue that this list would be headed by Orson Welles for Citizen Kane, and I won't disagree, but he was up against John Ford (who won), William Wyler and Howard Hawks, while neither John Huston for The Maltese Falcon, nor Hitchcock for Suspicion even got noms that year.

I'd forgotten about Fishburne's nom, thx for pointing that out.

Okay, how about a 2-part Love Story related trivia:  In Love Story, Ryan O'Neill plays a Harvard student, and the actor who made his film debut playing the roommate really did go to Harvard.

1.) This actor has gone on to a lengthy career, including multiple Oscar noms & 1 win, who is he?
2.) In real life, this actor's Harvard roommate went on to be even more famous than either he or Ryan O'Neill.  Who was his roommate?

Meg and Rodney, John Travolta, Governor Brown and Linda!

Personally, I think the fact that Cabaret came thisclose to upsetting Godfather for Best Pic was/is something of a scandal, considering Coppola's film is now considered maybe the greatest ever (depending where you rankCitizen Kane and G2). G won only 3 out of a possible 10, while C won 8 (!). A bit lopsided IMHO -- granted I haven't seen Cabaret in 30 years, while I watch G1 & G2 annually.

see my ETA to earlier post.

I agree, and furthermore I always thought Joel Grey was slumming in the Supporting category, he could have had a Leading Role nom & no one would have argued.  In which case Brando still would have won, taking C down a notch & just maybe one of the 3 nominees from G would have picked up the Supporting win instead.  I also wonder if in hindsight Coppola's DP (who did all three G movies) would have won instead of Fosse's, (Can't remember either guy's name).  But the guy wasn't even nommed until GIII!

ETA: had to look him up, his name is Gordon Willis, and IMDb sez: In a spectacular seven-year period from 1971 to 1977, seven of the films he worked on as director of photography accumulated 39 Oscar nominations with 19 wins. Among these wins were three Best Picture winners (The Godfather (1972), The Godfather: Part II (1974) and Annie Hall (1977)) and six for acting (Jane Fonda, Marlon Brando, John Houseman, Robert De Niro, Jason Robards and Diane Keaton). Incredibly, Willis failed to secure a single nomination for himself during this period.
