Ha! Beat me to it... just when I was saying I never hear promos anymore, there was one in the middle of the Marathon.

Just heard the promo for the second time this morning -- might it be that ratings are down since Dave left? People might be getting out of the 10@10 habit, since they know it's just gonna be another rer- er, "classic".

You might have something. True, we're a bunch of jaded mofos when it comes to 10@10, but I honestly feel less immediacy with the "classics"--no birthday club, no timeliness of clips, just a random set pulled out of the archive with no present-day context. Ben Fong-Torres column last weekend said KFOG seemingly hadn't suffered a drop in ratings after Dave's retirement, but I have to wonder about that, at least with regard to 10@10 itself. I know we've all been saying this, but I really hope Dave gets back in the driver's seat soon (not the Sniff 'n the Tears one). And I bet Tony Salvadore feels the same way.

Indeed. I'm sure the Morning Show's ratings have held up; as beloved as Dave was, there's really noplace else for that audience to go for relatively smart banter in the morning*. Who are they gonna switch to? Sarah & No-Name? Fernando & Greg? But 10@10 may have taken a hit; if nothing else there may be casual Fogheads who assume 10@10 is gone because Dave retired.
* Speaking of banter, there was a conversation this week about some guy who got a degree in music and (as happens in that situation) had to do a performance in front of a panel of professors who took notes as he played. And Renee immediately blurted out "Oh! Just like Flashdance!" And Greg replied sarcastically "oh, yeah, Renee, JUST like Flashdance..." -- you could just about hear him rolling his eyes. LOL!

Last Friday morning I had two mtgs, one in the City & one in Oakland...at 10:00, at Zhone, which is directly opposite the Oracle Arena. So at 9:45 I was ensnared by the traffic jam caused by the OPD funeral processions, and figured as long as I'm just sitting here watching police cars whiz by me on the shoulder, I'll call KFOG to see if they'd care for an on-the-ground update, and it will be an excuse to ask them directly about Dave's status. So I did.
Me: I was wondering when Dave is going to resume doing the 10@10?
Webster: So are we!
(and I think I herad Peter in the bacground say "It's still being discussed".)
Anyway, off to another 10:00 mtg, have fun without me.

"still being discussed"?? :o
That can't be good.

Yeah, after all the promises of 10@10 continuing once Dave got settled, to hear that there are things still to be "settled" is kind of distressing. He's still pictured on their airstaff page, so he hasn't been written out entirely (of course he's still filling about 12 hours of programming a week by my count). And they still have his last show posted in its entirety at the bottom of the Morning Show page, which tells me they know he's still got a following among their listeners.

Keep Feeling ("Classic")nation.
-
"Don't Forget to Dance" sounding quite nice today. VHM.
-
This one's been a classic twice--once in August of 2005, and repeated on July 5, of '07. No idea when it first aired.
KSWD doesn't look any better today (their "now playing" engine says Legs by ZZ Top) so I'm gonna pass on that and stay here, I think.
-
BOS to Ultravox. I have this cassette somewhere.
-
WOS to what I assume is Marillion, singing about "problems." This one needs to be sent a marillion miles away.
-
HM to Marillion doing their best Genesis imitation. It's recycled prog rock, dude!

Little Steven celebrated his show's 7th anniv last nite by playing clips of memorable guests, one of whom was Ray Davies, who told a story about being on Hullabaloo! back in the day -- they made him put chewing gum behind his front teeth to obscure the gap, which the producers found unseemly.

agreed -- and this one totally escaped my notice in '83 (no NYC airplay that I know of). I didn't become aware of them until "Kayleigh".
VHM Bono, striving to be an airborne ranger.
-
Never heard that appendix with various whisperings of "problems!" at the end of the Marillion before.
BOS2, Seconds.
-

"if ya don't eat yer meat, ya can't have any problems!"
VHM "The Politics of Dancing".
-
Just noticed that reference to Station to Station in Politics of Dancing. Appropriate, since lots of the bands that hit in the Rock of the Eighties format were borrowing liberally from the Thin White Duke.
-
BOS REM

-
REM, when they were "cutting edge."
-
One more BOS: Jim Capaldi's sublime take on his former band's signature tune. Who knew he could sing?
-
Tubes, "She's a 'Trina"
-
REM, when they were "cutting edge."
little known fact* about this REM cut. It started off with the title "Trebuchet," but the guys felt Michael Stipe was being too pretentious w that one.

* little known fact as in "I made this up" :)

Yeah, but I always got a kick out of how they were able to get a hit song out of a visit to those "live nude girl-put a coin in the slot" joints up on Broadway.
-
BOS to "Message to My Girl." Simply lovely songwriting.
-
And yet one more BOS, 'cuz it's a song I can't help but associate with DM: Message to My Girl.

Pretentious? a skinny, bald, closeted (in '83) gay guy? No, really?
-
did you feel the earthquake?

When even his Katrinas make you long for Dave, that's especially sad.
-
did you feel the earthquake?
Was it a big one? A roller or more of a hard snap?

wow, even his review of an earthquake sucks. ;)

I suspect the bonus track is being omitted from the stream again. We're at 7 minutes of ads so far--I've heard the ACT ad twice and about 4 Local Music ads. Eff this noise.

That's too bad, I heard it in the car, and it was a good one: Midnight Oil - "The Power & The Passion".
The question was 'what was the title of the REM song Davd played?' and the reason Annlisa asked it was that she named her cat in 1983 Catapult because of the song.
I thought that was pretty funny.

Yeah, but he wasn't bald in 1983.
And nice work on the trebuchet thing Tinka!

I noticed this the day this thread was started but it says 30 March 2000 on the subject line. And I'm sure you folks don't want to go back to that date because it would mean in 8 months George W. Bush would become President.
