Gladys makes yours a happy home and makes mine a happy Monday, courtesy of Judge on KPOO.
-
OMGWTFOL-of-the-Week: Judge plays the Afternoon Delights, "General Hospi-tale", which I surely have not heard since it charted .
"Ah jus' can't cope
Without mah soap!"
-
Judge just blew my mind with a clip of an interview Barry White gave to a British reporter in which he revealed himself to be an atheist.
Reporter: so you believe that when we die, there's no afterlife?
Barry: Over... Finished... That's IT.
I'm surprised and impressed.
-
MJ and his brothas wanna sprinkle their love around you. Er, ewww. But "I Am Love" is a highlight of the afternoon anyway.
-
Holy crap! Another '80s nugget I have not heard in 25 years: Fonda Rae, "Over Like a Fat Rat"!
-
NTM: the Bros Johnson in a mellowish mood, "Runnin' For Your Lovin'", from the same LP as "Strawberry Letter"
-
The fab Four Tops, in one of their finest late-'70s perfs, say "Catfish makes my nature rise". I prefer salmon myself.
-
Gearing up for an hour of JJ's '60s, but before he arrives we get the Whispers' fab disco take on Bread's "Make it With You".
-
Lawdy! Jerry Butler, "What's the Use of Breakin' Up?"
-
TANC: Mary Wells is torn between 2 lovers who happen to be one guy.
-
Most ridiculous '60s nonsense-lyrics ever: the "shak-a-dool-ah"s the male chorus is singing on Lesley Gore's "She's a Fool".
-
another OMGWTF courtesy of Bob Shannon on 'LNG: Bobby Womack's wildly soulful cover of "Fly me To The Moon"!

Which was nearly his first Top 40 hit; just barely missed IIRC.
-
wow, 'LNG unearths Roger Miller's "Husbands & Wives". An underappreciated genius, he was.
-
Marilyn McCoo, ah LOVE you! The 5-D are workin on a groovy thing.
-
I love The Fuzz for so many reasons
***WHICH MEANS***
I love them for all seasons...

My day is made by the Montanas' "You've Gotta Be Loved" on WLNG. Sunshiny swoon!

I emailed Judge on Monday to thank him for playing that and got a nice email in return. I mentioned the song was big on WBLS in NYC in 1982 and he's fascinated by Frankie Crocker and other legendary black broadcsaters.

I really love how you rendered that, btw.

Hee. Her delivery of that gets the Histrionic Black Diva award of the week.
-
switched over to 'LNG in time to hear them play the GrassRoots' "Live For Today" and its antecedent, the Drifters' "I Count the Tears", back-to-back.
-
"Puff the Magic -- drag on!" 'LNG plays the original drug song. Little Jackie (rolling) Paper?
