Early VHM to "Jesus Is Just Alright," a song that managed to piss off Christians and non-Christians alike.

BOS to "Back Stabbers," just for having one of the all-time great opening sequences/orchestrations.

What They Do!

you know you're on the right track when you piss off everybody.

BTW Dave will also be doing a '70s year today, at least that's what the otherwise non-specific promo said this weekend.

so what's your itinerary for the next week or two? You said you'd be gone but didn't say where to.

Doesn't that guitar solo go on just a *bit* too long, though?

indeed for an album critics consider one of their best, Exile underperformed, singles-chart-wise. I thought "Tumblin' Dice " was a surefire #1 and was wrong.

OMG! "Burning Love"! Another one Dave's never played.  Gotta love a song that rhymes "higher" and "choir".

The Bob Newhart Show was that old?  I thought it came later in the decade.

VHM to "Suavecito" (with extended intro!), later reshaped as Sugar Ray's "Every Morning."

Ladies & Gentlemen, the looooooooooooong version of "Suavecito"!  Muy bueno!

VHM the M*A*S*H* clip. Saw part of the original movie version over the weekend.  Still funny.  Princess, you've never explained your M*A*S*H* dislike.

I just got in to the dulcet strains of this song, but I have no idea who this is.

But I caught the Sugar Ray similarity almost immediately.

"reshaped"? is that a new synonym for "stolen"?

C'mon this is a 1HW, and I had a vague recollection of a Santana tie-in, but I couldn't remember the name of the band.  I guarantee you Malo isn't a household name (see I had to look it up myself).

If you've never seen the movie, then the song doesn't make sense.  However within the context of the film, the song is great.

sorry, I consider this one of the most-overplayed oldies on Bay Area radio. Of course then I may listen to KFRC and Kiss more often than you. But even Dave has played it often enough.

I didn't say I've never heard it, I said I couldn't think of the band's name.

but I'm definitely guilty as charged re: KFRC & Kiss.

I've been listening to Kiss quite a bit lately.  I was surprised to find that the play so much Santana (and Malo) on it.  Not what I consider r&b, old or new school.

The Doobies' JIJA is one of those songs that I never knew was a cover for years--I think I was well out of college before I found out that the Byrds had done it first. The Doobies version was so ubiquitous (relatively speaking) that I think it obliterated the Byrds version on the various radio stations I was listening to at the time.

Just one of those inescapable things about being older.  It's not that I feel snarky and jaded, it's just that for me, The Byrds version was what I was listening to first.  Just like with Black Magic Woman, the Fleetwood Mac version was my first exposure to the song, so Santana came along later, as a cover.  It's a good cover, but a cover.

I know exactly what you mean. For me, Take Me To The River is first an Al Green song, not Talking Heads (although I love both).  And Once Bitten Twice Shy will always be an Ian Hunter song, not Great White. I'm sure there are other examples, too. Btw, Santana's Black Magic Woman is another song that I didn't realize was a cover until many years after I first heard it.
