I'm hoping for early 70s--1973 and even moreso, 1972 are long due. And Earth Day tomorrow?
-
Uhhhh, that was me....I thought I was signed in, honest.
-
damn -- off to a meeting. Sorry to miss Miss Mavis! Be back (I hope) before it's over...
-
Oh good: some soul to start. Even if Mavis weirds me out with the "daddy ... oh daddy" interlude at the solo.
-
'72 - rod's favorite year. mine, too!
-
Now if we can get "The Sly, the Slick, and the Wicked" in this set, I'll officially be a Happy Gaz.
-
Even if Mavis weirds me out with the "daddy ... oh daddy" interlude at the solo.
i'm so glad i'm not the only one who is terribly disturbed by that. she's either singing to pops (evidently, because of the solo) or god (less evident, but they are the staple singers). either way, it's too strange. i always picture her doing the etta james while she's singing it.
-
who's this? "the road don't get no shorter, running round running blues.." ?? sounds like robben ford and leon russell and boz scaggs and dr. john.

"doing the etta james"? Is that a euphemism for shooting up? :o
P.S. Why aren't they the Staples Singers?
-
Boz Scaggs' Runnin' Blue--Boz with big band, from the long out-of-print Boz Scaggs and Band. Most likely a bust-out, and probably from vinyl.
-

ha! no. it's what i call the naaassstay (wheel)chair dance etta james does since she can't bounce around the stage anymore. she runs her hand from her bosom down to her netherworld. normally it would be replusive, but she's etta james. so the whole audience goes wild.
maybe they're french? silent 's.' liaison? i dunno...that always bothered me, too. such a troublesome group.
-
72 hitting the right spot this morning!

It would certainly lend a new tilt to "I'll Take You There."
-
Mah-Mo-Yeah! Raspberries evade the TOTHC position!
-
I love The Raspberries but the Katrinafication is taking the luster off.
-

and an even newer tilt to "wade in the water" and "freedom highway."

I feel ya, Beej.

fawndas make the world go 'round.

I take it that Dave didn't appreciate what happened to Hanoi Jane in KC a couple days ago.
-
Agree or disagree with Jane Fonda, she did her homework more than most of the radio-call-in types. Not that ill-informed callers on talk shows are a problem in TODAY's society.

qu'est-ce que c'est passé?

qu'est-ce que c'est passé?
A Vietnam veteran with an axe to grind spit a heap o' tobacca juice in Jane's face during a book signing. He was very proud of his level of articulation.

much less a problem than ill-informed newscasters and reporters.

wow. people still spit?

True -- but you can't have one without the other. It's a mutual masturbation of ignorance.

In Chinatown, sure.

only a fool would say that.
;)

Yeah. Then he ran & hid. Security found him & busted him (at least that's how one report told it). Jane didn't press charges.
I saw him interviewed briefly on TV. I didn't hear what he said, though.
-
"All men are created equal" --> "Only a fool would say that." Wow, Dave's bitter today. (Good for him.)

Seems she's still attracting the same caliber of critic that she did in '72. Dave faded it out this time, but if you recall, the clip he played today ends with the caller telling her to fuck off, or words to that effect--the f-word was definitely involved, and Jane complimenting him on his "nice manners."
-

they yak on other people's shoes there, too. i had the stains to prove it.
-
Steely Dan sounding way ahead of their times in this set.
-
sludge is a helluva drug
-
BOS Slade!
-
this set has me dancing!!
-
Harrumph. Two glam trax in a row.
-
Heh. I'm not sure I'd call Slade 'glam'. But, I've been wrong before.
(which is a great HP Lovecraft song, btw- "I've Been wrong Before")
-
BOS2 The Blue Ridge Rangers (aka Fogerty post-CCR)
-
Dave did *not* mean to play "Jambalaya" as the segue from Sammy D on All in the Family ... did he? Makes no sense, and wasn't the song MUCH later (like, 74 or 75)?
-

I thought you'd say "Wham, Bam, Thank You Glam."

Whitburn has this entering the charts on 1/6/73, so maybe Dave has a new rule (like when songs enter the Hot 100, instead of the Top 40).

i thought he did. and i thought it was funny. big ole colorful creole mix. and stuff.
-
yes, dave is certainly in a mood...."starry, starry night." i like it.
-
I wish that had been tune #9 so that he could have closed with "Ludwig's Tune" (title?) from Joni's For the Roses.
-

GREAT record. One of the discs I played endlessly to play bass along with. Boz lovers must get this one.

They were really pretty advanced, and only later cashed in on the soft jazz market.

After I made the above post, I checked Allmusic and found that BS&B was rereleased this year on Sony Japan. Can be had for a mere $35 and change via Amazon, for those Boz fans that just gotta have it. I am considering it.

I just heard most of the replay; pretty tasty indeed! Rasberries over Boz? Oy!

This is the FBI. We need to know the whereabouts of this Princess of Cairo person, so that we may ask her a few questions. It is your patriotic duty to assist us.

This is the real FBI, the previous post was submitted by an impostor. We need to know his whereabouts. In case of further attempts by this individual to impersonate an FBI agent in future posts, please note: The FBI does not have a sense of humor. And we do not say 'please'.
-
This is being the real, real FBI. We must be knowing where to find the infidels who would mock Allah... er ... I mean..... "Geezus" and that would be impersonating FBI on the internets.
Allah is great.
