BOS to "Baby's Coming Back," an utter delight from Jellyfish that I've taken to heart on more than a few occasions.

They should have been HUGE!

Indeed it should--I played the hell out of this album circa '91. (And I'd LOVE to have been a fly on the wall at the album cover photo shoot.)

Btw, this set originally aired Sept 25, '08. They're continuing to mine that period heavily for their "classics."

This is another set from last fall, 9/25 to be precise, and we liked it a lot more than most '91 sets on that date.  But still....

Sorry for the crankypants, but how difficult is it for Greg (or whomever) to keep track of this stuff?  '91 twice in a week-and-a-half is really ridiculous. Plus, it's another week without new Dave, which is beginning to seem a pipe dream.

Looking at the setlist, I can't imagine why -- still pretty boring to me, bustouts notwithstanding.

Here's another cassette I used to own: Mellencamp.

What was it that Teddy Kennedy had gotten himself into right before the Anita Hill hearings, anyone remember?  There was something very fresh & embarassing at the time, and he sat there with his lips glued shut while his Repugnican committee colleagues just got further and further out of hand.

It's the only image I could find for the last "movie" I saw (the BBC's Prog Britaannia). I've been meaning to replace it with either "Benjamin Button" or "Doubt", but haven't made it to the cinema yet.

no EMF, no Extreme, no Crowded House, no Gerardo, no Rembrandts, no Bonnie, no Webb Wilder...that's why.

ETA: no "Losing My Religion" no "Enter Sandman", and as noted above, no "Right Here, Right Now".  allof of which are Katrinas of the first order (Metallica scores 33% of set in my Db).

Lori Carson (I looked it up - they have an interesting bio).
Sounds like The Cocteau Twins meets The Cranberries.

Very prescient--both those bands were named in the thread for this set's first appearance, but then we couldn't even place it to the Golden Palominos.

We also debated the similarity of Knopfler's Heavy Fuel guitar riff to others he'd written for previous DS hits.

back in Sept I guessed Dolores O'Riordan, and somebody else guessed Cocteau Twins.

and no Anita Hill-into-"Breaking the Girl" segue. But it's still '91, pretty much a lost year for me, music-wise. I arrived in SF in late Feb; discovered KDIA soon after, and heard very little new music that year, except for what i got from a couple of hours of Alex Bennett's Live 105 morning show. I didn't discover 10@10 and KFOG until the following year.

Look at them yo-yos, that's the way you do it.  You play the guitar like you did on your last hit.

Speaking of soundalike vocalists, sure could be Suzanne Vega singing Bye Bye Route 66, 'cept it's not. Something called Devonsquare. A real Narada hailing from Portland ME, per AMG.

I was thinking the same thing. A cross between Vega and Jane Siberry.

got online late, but was able to listen.

- first track is Simple Minds?    pretty nice.

- girlfriend has shown me the joys of Jellyfish, so that gets an HM

- I've always liked U2's Mysterious Ways - BOS1

- Marc Cohn...  whatevs.

- Jeebus H. Jones feels real real pop-a-licious to me.

- John Mellonhead: great guitar riff  ... and I like when he gets political.

That Anita Hill clip, the Repub (?) senator says:
If your answer now turns on process, all I can say it that it wouldve' been much shorter had you said at the outset that Mr. Rudney (?) told you that if you came (sic) forward Judge Thomas might withdraw.  That is the essence as to what occurred.
Anita: No it is not.  I think we differ on our interpretation of what I said.
GOP: Well what am i missing here professor Hill?
Teddy K: Let the witness answer in her own word, rah-ther than having words put in her mouth.
GOP: I object! I object to that vociferously...[unintelligible drunken gibberish... ;)  ]

- Golden Palominos:  BOS2 -  just loverly

- Dire Straits: I agree they repackaged their own Money for Nothing riff, but at least they didn't copy Joe Satriani or some Argnentine band

- WOS to the Bush One shout out to Dick Cheney as Sec of Defense for Op Desert Storm, just b/c he's Dick Cheney

- BAD's Rush - VHM!

- that Route 66 thing: blech ...  Bye Bye indeed!
