Mah Mo Yeah!
but '72 on Thurs makes me suspect we may have a '90s Friday in store.

wow -- "GATW" is such a quintessential TOTHK.
-
BOS "The Wheel" -- Jerry when he was good ;)
-

Looks like it's the latter--we'd be hearing Grin or Steely Dan if it were either of those sets.
Every time that wheel turn round, bound to cover just a little more ground.

BOS "The Wheel" -- Jerry when he was good ;)
BOS #2 from me, and also because it confirms that this is an unknown classic. YAY!

I assume you're fishing for a reaction. So I'll bite -- when *wasn't* he good?

anytime after, oh, 1976 (Mike ducks).
VHM MTM theme.
after "Eyes of Silver" earlier, I've not much use for "Listen to the Music" now
-
which TV theme was that?

Cultural blind spot for me. Have practically never seen an episode from start to finish, and certainly not for 30 yrs. Most of what I know is from Dave's clips.

BOS #3, as it seems to be the looong version.

Wow, that's surprising. What did you used to watch on Saturday nights in the early 70s?

I thought it was a Paul Williams song.
indeed, Williams wrote it, but the singer, Sonny Curtis was a former Cricket.

actually, Sonny wrote it in 1970.

BOS2 "It Ain't Easy"! A Morey rarity, fo' sho'.
We really need to hear some 3DN now, since they (a) covered this, and (b) stole "Liar" out from under Argent.

Damn! What were the odds of hearing BOTH versions of "Call Me the Breeze" in the same morning?

BOS #4, but I'm gonna miss the last 3 songs or so as the first staff meeting in years has just been called now that our GM has returned from Taiwan HQ. I anticipate cost cutting measures, but not personnel cuts (finger crossed, knock on wood). But the GM has all the leadership qualities of a wet rag, so it's not going to be pleasant no matter what.
-
So did you notice that the stream quality has gone downhill, from 66kHz to 49kHz? It sounds noticeably worse. Or is it just me?

TANC, Benson played a cut off of Jean-Jacques' new album this morning for NRT.

I noticed that too.

No breaks. Just no highs and lows or clarity.
Time to go to the DMV. See ya later!
-
BOS4 EJ, "Think I'm Gonna Kill Myself", another Morey rarity.

Yeah, definitely flatter than it was earlier.
I think I'm gonna kill myself...

Sounds a lot like the guy who was exec editor my last 6 months or so at CNET. How do people like that get into positions of responsibility anyway?

Hear, hear! Very good set today--no clues in the backsell as to how old it was. However, the Don Pardo intro to the set was "It's 1972 on 104.5 KFOG" which I don't recall having heard much in recent years. So safe to say it's old.

I had to look it up. I need to read more Heinlein; Stranger in a Strange Land and I Will Fear No Evil were faves of mine back in the day and both would make great movies.

I had no idea it was used in Heinlein. It's the core teaching for me in science. The wiki explanation was pretty interesting.

Don't be so sure about that.
Oh, and besides the two that Mike recommended, I'd suggest The Moon is A Harsh Mistress and Time Enough For Love to anyone looking for a good Heinlein read.

I don't think I've ever read any Heinlein. Maybe I've seen movies or TV shows based on his writing?

There haven't been very many:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0374423/
And none of his bigger titles (i.e. most of the ones we've mentioned) have been produced. Starship Troopers is about the only one I recognized there. Don't know The Puppet Masters.
It's odd that there haven't been more movie adaptations of his work--maybe his estate isn't interested in selling the rights?

The difference is noticeable even on my cheap speakers (the ones that came with my old computer in 1999).

Puppet Masters was done in the early '90s with Donald Sutherland, iirc.

sadly, you have to have Flash Player 10 to do anything there -- I don't even have that at work, and we're pretty up-to-date here.

Add Glory Road to that list, a personal fave (Hienlen, extra pulp variety).
And I'll re-recommend Stranger... If you only read one, this is it. Warning: I reread it a couple years ago, and Heinlen's 50's sensiblility and the chauvanism that was the norm is somewhat off-putting. Also, it's not as mind-blowing at nearly 50 as it was when I was 17 -- go figure.

Tom Hanks was attached to a film version some years back; I think that fell by the wayside.
But I think I Will Fear No Evil would be great -- I suggest Clint Eastwood as the aging millionaire and Scarlet Jo as the hot babe he transplants his brain into.

I was thinking Scarlet Jo for the hot babe in Glory Road. ;D
There's no shortage of hot babe roles if you're adapting Heinlen for the screen.

the Saturday Marathon is going in M-F order this morning, so this great 1972 set is starting right now. Looking forward to hearing it without the distractions of work.
