Title: 26 January 2009: a "classic" from 1989
Post by: mshray on January 26, 2009, 09:52:09 AM
I heard the promo by Webster over the weekend.  So I'm assuming it's a classic.

ETA:  When I fired up the KFOG player RHCP's were on & the player indicated Travelling Wilburys "Last Night" was 'upcoming'.  And I thought, hmmm, sure hope whoever picked the set isn't about to give us some duplication.  But then Dire Straits "So Far Away" came on instead, and nothing is in the 'upcoming' slot, which I take it to mean that this is the last song before the set.

So does that mean we can count on some TW's?

HM to "Pop Song '89," but I really doubt I'm gonna give this whole set a chance.  Would rather return to Cilla Black goodness on YouTube.

This leads off two different sets in the Db, and the one from last October was actually really good.

Okay, Jeff Healey confirms it.  Mike will definitely want to be here for tune #4.

ETA: interestingly both sets have the same tune #10, but this set has more bustouts than Katrinas.

Dittoes. Our 2nd '89 "classic" in 3 weeks -- continuity is clearly not a strong point of whoever's in charge of these. (BTW, see Rob's '89 set on the Peak this morning; at least he plays "My Brave face" occasionally).

This set will be demonstrably better than Rob's, believe it or not.

Well, OK, I looked at the list and it *is* one of Dave's better '89 sets, Mr Aimee Mann notwithstanding. Still, twice in 3 weeks is pushing it for a year with such a rotten rep.

Well, I gave this set a shot but (yawn) I'm outta here -- No Myth was the last straw for me.  Enjoy...

Michael Penn is really the only katrina, although tune #10 is borderline.  Nothing else in this set has had more than 3 spins in the Db, and there are 3 bustouts on the way.

Ditto, and a BOS #2 to JCM.  Both were bustouts back in Oct, as was the next tune, which is my overall BOS.  Pretty rare to get two bustouts in a row, much less three.

BOS #4 Lou Reed "Dirty Boulevard".

The only song in the Db to contain the word 'klieg'.

So, has anyone heard even the slightest hint about when Dave returns with new material?  I sure haven't.

not a peep -- and I'm sure it's the #1 question they're being asked these days. I understand not wanting to talk about Dave endlessly during the Webster Morning Show, it's time to move on etc., but the occasional blurb, "Dave'll be back with new 10@10s in February (or whenever)" would make sense.
