And Don sez "Solid, Jackson." We haven't heard that clip for a looooong while. Pre-DB set?

Yep, thought so & checked. "Sir Duke" has never been TotHK in the Db.

that in itself is a pretty astonishing stat.
This should be interesting...
-
and now for something completely rare -- how often have we heard "Oh daddy"? Not very, iirc. BOS1
-
Since today is Elvis' b'day, we should get a clip, like those strange girls who made the case that he's still alive.

I just looked--actually this set first aired Nov 14 '06, and was a classic on July 23 of this year. But it's a good 'un.

BOS to FMac and mournful McVie. Love this underplayed one.

You're right, I was jsut double checking & realized my error.
Proxy of Beej for tune #4!

only once, but it got repeated as a classic, & now doubly repeated...as Urth has beaten me to pointing out.

one would hope -- an Elvis clip in '77 is a good bet -- but I doubt Irish Greg (or whoever) is examining the set-lists that closely on classics.

but OTOH... here's Bowie on his B-day!
-
made another mistake. Proxy of Beej should be tune 5...and also tune 9 1/2.
-
when "Oh Daddy" started up, I was thinking ho-hum, but it sounded pretty nice!
I'm alway a fan of Bowie's "Heroes."
-
VHM Carter's good intentions.
-
Ah yes, now we remember this set! Dr Buzzard, et al.
-
Let's hear it for Tommy Mottola!
-
BOS2 Doctor Byew-ZAHRD!
They'll tell you a lie with a colgate smile, hey baby
Love you one second and hate you the next one
Oh ain't it crazy, yeah
All I can say, ay, hey, of one thing I am certain, ooh, ooh
They're all the same, all the sluts and the saints
For misery my friend
Cherchez la femme
damn, that some serious woman-hatin'!

Boy, no kiddin'. There's one verse that got by 90% of the people that bought this record.

why the H doesn't Dave just play the Pistols instead of the clip?
But I'll take this Aerosmith rawker...

proxy of Alicat (but a "feh" from me): Aerosmith in the, er, saddle.

YES! I say that every time.
But here's Mr Rotten on Judge Judy. I'm sure Dave would approve.

Anyone know what kind of keyboard makes that effect on bars 5-8 of the intro to Santana's "She's Not There"? I love it.

another "feh" to Santana in their what-can-we-cover-next-for-easy-airplay? period

Ha! We heard the Pistols at my gym yesterday, and I asked a fellow gym member (who i often discuss pop culture with) if he'd seen that butter commercial. He hadn't, but he alerted me to the Judge Judy thing.
OMFG! BOS3, Graham Parker covering the Trammps.

And here's my BOS--GP, Holdin' Back the Night.
Another BOS from me.
Gotta go drive to a meeting after this one.

Regarding Oakland Raiders clip, uh, Oaktown getting national press again (not the kind their Chamber of Commerce wants):

I work around the corner from where today's protest will be (BART's offices are in the Kaiser Bldg) and I may have to go without lunch today.
BOS4 Bish, savin' it for a Chaka bray.

Chaka, just kick Stephen out of the studio and sing this song yourself.

I still can't believe someone who loves all things cheezy and '70s could hate Stephen Bishop that much.

Saw this article last night on the Chron website. The woman from SF who justifies trashing a storefront just disgusts me no end. I agree there was a grave injustice done by the BART cops, but the woman whose store just got trashed is not the person who needs to pay the price. Violence ain't the way, people...

I can't see this image, but I just know it's Bill Murray's lounge singer

The quintessential Tune No. 10: "Just a Song Before I Go." BOS2. I like the restrained precision of Nash's voice here, the way he's steeling himself to avoid emotional breakdown at the departure. Or am I reading too much into it?

"Star Waaars, nothing but Staaar Wars, if they should bar waaars, where would we be?" Or something like that.

Peter interviewed a BART guy this morning who tried to invoke Dr King in appealing for non-violence; hope that still means something in 2009. (And wonder if we'll get an MLK set on the 19th)
ETA: gotta love the guy in the article whose name is (I'm not kidding) Mandingo Hayes. He's 36, which means he was named after the book, not the movie. ;)
-
Now THAT was a classic. One of the top '77 sets ever. Only song I have any complaint with is the Santana--which could have easily been a Sex Pistols or Ramones song. No Elvis ref though. And have to wonder if this set was selected on purpose for the Bowie tune, or if that was coincidental.

The quintessential Tune No. 10: "Just a Song Before I Go."
Can't tell you how many times I played that just before the news. One of the great 2-minutes-and-change singles.
BTW, I can't remember who it was, but some band put out an instrumental called "Just Before the News". Tee hee.
