And the princess wins the "start the thread" derby by a nose!

(Explanation: Both Mike and I started threads as well, but hers was first on the board. Mine's now mere dust in the ether.)

yeesh, another bum year -- one of Dave's worst, traditionally.

but New Order's a decent start...

BOS to "True Faith."  '87 got no better than this.  I remember very vividly hearing the song for the first time by seeing the video right before I left for bowling (I was in a weekly Sunday league, duckpin-styley).

And possibly a little dig from DM by way of Crowded House? I don't remember hearing the clip with Downtown Julie Brown before (assuming it's an MTV Vid award snippet).

Overplayed though it is, "Don't Dream It's Over" remains something of a sledgehammer for me: I was a Pgh finalist in the Scripps-Howard spelling bee that year, and heard this song 3 times on the way to the finals.  (Some consolation for me: the girl who won ultimately won the whole shebang.)

And since someone's gonna ask: I was eliminated on throstle, which apparently is something one does to wheat.

If it makes you feel any better, I have never seen that word before this very moment.

you were throttled by throstle.

"DDIO" is a great single, one of my 10 best that year , but KFOG has ruined it for me.

Dave has just absolved himself!  BOS2 - and an ATBB? - to Bananarama, "I Heard a Rumour"!

OMFG!! super duper BOS to the glorious bustout (methinks) of Bananarama's "I Heard a Rumor", one the best of their Stock/Aitken/Waterman catalog.

Rough transition to the poignant buzzkill of "Don't Give Up."  HM, still.

Yep, a bustout according to the DB. We've only heard Cruel Summer (2X) and Venus (once) before this.

Peter Gabriel two days running, but the songs couldn't be much more different. Still, this and the Bananarama are my two strongest BOS candidates. Certainly not the U2 that just started.

BOS REM

Likewise. This was the point at which they went from being a nifty little new wave band to playing arena rock.

another VHM LL. Bob's doing '87 tomorrow; be interesting to see how his version (fairly rare in the Drive's rotation) stacks up -- can't be worse, but then I'm sure we won't get Bananarama either

As 87 sets go, I don't think this one was so bad. Yes, we got the two major Ks for the year, but from SH6 on, 4 of 5 songs were pretty darn good (excluding the way overplayed U2 cut), including one ATBB. Not a set for the ages, but I think it could have been far worse.

Well, OK (i'm feeling VERY crankypants of late, so forgive me) but OTOH I can't imagine Bob giving us both Crowded house *and* "C'est La Trina".  Serious kudos to Dave on the Bananarama -- exactly the sort of '80s pop you'd think he'd be totally into (if we could get Kylie Minogue in an '88 set I'd scream like Gaz at a Pat Burrell book signing).

One more strike against Annalisa: today's bonus track is JCM's Check It Out. Two songs before 10@10 started, we heard another JCM song (Cherry Bomb). Just read the log, for cryin' out loud--she could have just as easily offered up any number of other, better songs that KFOG doesn't play 10 times a week. (Tinka: you're welcome.)

ROTFLMAO!  glad I'm not the only cranky one ;)

even worse is when the Exact. Same. Song shows up in reg rotation half an hour before it appears in a 10@10 replay (happened recently with the Jack White/Alicia Keys "unholy mess").
