one of the greatest soliloquys in film history, but Dave edited it quite a bit.

Arthur Jensen: You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Beale, and I won't have it! Is that clear? You think you've merely stopped a business deal. That is not the case! The Arabs have taken billions of dollars out of this country, and now they must put it back! It is ebb and flow, tidal gravity! It is ecological balance! You are an old man who thinks in terms of nations and peoples. There are no nations. There are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems, one vast and immane, interwoven, interacting, multivariate, multinational dominion of dollars. Petro-dollars, electro-dollars, multi-dollars, reichmarks, rins, rubles, pounds, and shekels. It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet. That is the natural order of things today. That is the atomic and subatomic and galactic structure of things today! And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and YOU...WILL...ATONE! Am I getting through to you, Mr. Beale? You get up on your little twenty-one inch screen and howl about America and democracy. There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM, and ITT, and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon. Those *are* the nations of the world today. What do you think the Russians talk about in their councils of state, Karl Marx? They get out their linear programming charts, statistical decision theories, minimax solutions, and compute the price-cost probabilities of their transactions and investments, just like we do. We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr. Beale. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable bylaws of business. The world is a business, Mr. Beale. It has been since man crawled out of the slime. And our children will live, Mr. Beale, to see that . . . perfect world . . . in which there's no war or famine, oppression or brutality. One vast and ecumenical holding company, for whom all men will work to serve a common profit, in which all men will hold a share of stock. All necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused. And I have chosen you, Mr. Beale, to preach this evangel.

Turnstiles is certainly uneven, and I think BJ thought it would be a big commercial breakthru, but he'd have to wait another year.

Totally.  This was played on Klassic Kasem recently, and Gaz compared it to Todd Rundgren and I immediately made the EJ comment.

Now there's a show I was at...  Pretty sure this was '77 -- the I'm In You tour.  Just awful.

Kind of strange to have a Brit headlining over a couple of Southern Rock bands.  As I recall, the Outlaws stole the show.

My memories of the '70s are pretty clouded -- I may have gone to both shows, but definitely went to the day J. Geils headlined.  Have photos somewhere, maybe I'll hunt 'em up and scan 'em in.

Agreed.

I saw her on a Sat Night Live rerun the other night (in primetime) -- not sure if the performance would have been quite so annoying if the song was still fresh...

"play that Duffy song -- you haven't played it since this morning"  And I happen to love that song, if I made a 10-best list it would surely be on it, but jeez, it's been in heavy rotation since May.

11/20/08 – Thursday!  Great tunes from…1976!!!

1.  Ohio Players – Who’d She Coo?
2.  ZZ Top – Arrested For Driving While Blind
3.  ELO – Tightrope
4.  Billy Joel – Summer, Highland Falls
5.  Queen – You’re My Best Friend
6.  Steely Dan – Kid Charlemagne
7.  Kiss – Flaming Youth
8.  Eric Carmen – Sunrise
9.  Peter Frampton – Lines On My Face (BEST OF SET!!)
10. Boz Scaggs – Love Me Tomorrow

BONUS TRACK:  Bob Seger – Sun Spot Baby

Another bonus track that'd be a bustout if it had been in the set.

Yep, glad I got to hear this one, as this was one of the sets I missed when our internet was down. Was hoping to catch the '70 set too, but one out of two ain't bad.

I'd been avoiding doing this, but one of us was bound to do it sooner or later. By my count, we've got at most 18 new 10@10s left before Dave relocates. (I'm assuming he'll be off this Thursday and Friday, and who knows if there will be any other "sickies" in there.)

Nope. Dave does have a new blog posted (http://www.kfog.com/shows/airstaff/dave_morey_blog.asp#snow), but no word about turkeys. I am betting he will however. That always seemed to be one of his fave recurring theme sets, and he can't pass up a chance to play "Mah-na-Mah-na" and the Chakachas one more time.
